I have no idea what happened here? I thought i made a perfect DVD copy. The movie was an exact back up because the movie was only 4.07GB. Anyways, there was about 20 minutes left in the movie and then the frames started pausing. It paused about every 10 seconds and then finally just stopped and my movie paused completely! I was using a silver back Memorex DVD-R. I heard these disks are crap to begin with, so im not sure if it's the media's problem or what?
I just bought a 5-pack of Apple DVD-R's today, i hope these are better.

Does anyone have any idea what happened here?

Yea....This is what im hoping is the case Fredrick.
This couldn't have gotten any simpler. I used back up in SmartRipper and just dragged all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder over. Plus, Nero doesn't allow to mess up the order of the files.
Everything was perfect up until that point. Like i said above...The movie size was about 4.07GB and there was about 20-25 minutes left to the movie.

Im just hoping it's that the Memorex media sucks. Im gonna try this movie once more with the Apple DVD-R's and see what happens. I mean, i can't keep doing this and wasting money if the burning is not successful ya know.

  4. hi,

could be crappy media or your player might just be fussy and not like that
    make of media.

i've got 2 players and one seems to play anything i put into it,
but the other has problems towards the end of the movies (last 20mins)
    even when using gen3 disks.

but these same discs play OK on 90% of my friends players which are all different makes and models.

i should try your backups on different players and you will prob find they will play ok on some players and not others, if thats the case you will need to find media that suits yours.

dvd-r media seems to be very hit or miss at the moment and the fact that the manufacturers are changing dye formulations all the time does not help.

the original datasafe gen3 worked 100% on both my players, then they changed them and now they only work well on the one player, good job they have just re-released them as datasafe CLASSIC.

give them a try they worked well for me.
    regards...

Hey Anaboland Thanx for the reply.

Yea, i gotta say it sucks that we as consumers gotta sit around and wait until the manufacturers finally "get it right". In the mean time, people are buying all these different media's and getting stiffed, because the compatibility is far and in between. Maybe they'll get it right really soon, and we won't have to spend our money on non-compatible crap!

Now, when you talk about data safe gen 3 disks....What brand makes those and how would i go about getting some? I haven't tried the Apple DVD-R's yet, but im crossing my fingers on those to work. But if these disks you're mentioning are pretty good, maybe i should give them a try.

    hey IremainAMisterE,

Does your dvd pause only at the end. I have been having a similar problem but it does it throughout the whole movie. about every half hour it pauses for like 10 seconds then continues. Did the apple dvds help at all?

    Later,
    W

    Hello Wbilliam

Yup it was only at the end of my movie. But i finally found out the reason. Someone on another forum was telling me, that not only do we(consumers) have to watch out for compatibility issues....But we also have to be careful because some media say 4.7GB but they're really not. He said that for the most part, it is some of the cheap media that does this.

As far as the Apple DVD-R's go....I copied that same movie on one, the same exact way and no problems now whatsoever.
I really think im going to stick with these until better and more frequently stable media comes out. If you go to CompUSA, they're selling 5-pks. w/jewel cases for $24.99 and they write at 2x.

Hello IremainAMisterE, I used several brands of DVD-R. I also have 3 DVD players: 1 Sampo DVE 631 CF, 1 Sampo DVE 620 and 1 Sony. With some brands on my Sampo DVE 631 I have the same problem. At the end of the movie the player keeps freezing and jumping. On the other players the movie plays perfectly. I think all has to do with the DVD-Rom unit in the player and the brand you DVD-R's are. Also I know for a fact that this is a common problems with the DVD-R media in DVD Players when the unit reads towards the outside tracks of the disc. Practically you'll have to find some media that is compatible with your DVD player.

Anyway, Apple although good is too expensive for my pocket...

    Good Luck
