I frequently use my PC whilst encoding with TMPG. I don't notice any difference whether it is running ior not, but the encode will take longer. However, you will notice a difference if you are cutting, muxing etc. as this seems to be very CPU intensive.

if you dont notice much differance its because the encoding is set for normal or less priority ... and anything you do will just slow down tmpgenc .. there is some though (its debatable) that you shouldnt cause the encoding to slow way down or stop as this could cuase artifacts (i dont know myself) - therefore priority should be higher than normal ..

mux'ng and cutting default to a higher priority -- they accually take no more cpu power (in fact less) but they are hard drive intensive so they will cause a lot of activity whole board wise..

  5. It's hardly make a different to your output file unless your computer freeze , but will slow down the process. With P @ 1.7 GHz I can answer your question, download movies, listen to music while encoding with TMPGEnc. But one thing I will not burn any CD while encoding for sure.
