Is there a way to get Virtual dub to use MPEG-1 MPEG-2 file capture? The best Codec that works for me right now is the PicVideo MJPEG Codec which has about 25-50 dropped frames for every 500.
I have a Duron 750 with 192MB ram and Gainward GE Force 2 MX 400 twinview/vivo golden sample video card which uses a Phillips Decoder. I use the VFW wrapper.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get my dropped frames down.

Try using AVI_IO instead. I was getting a similar drop rate in VirtualDub. Switching capture apps resulted in close to zero.

i also use mjpeg and the droped frames are >5
it used to be 30+ because i had my ati-v app running so i closed all the start up progs and saw a huge improvement
is AVI_IO any good? because i have used the capture prog that came with the tv card but it only supports uncompressed
to tweak win98 starup stuff
Free more ram
run msconfig and click on the star up tab uncheck junk like messenger, icq, ati virus prog, etc. (if you don't know what it is, don't uncheck), but first check the program if it can be disabled
then on explorer click help about and it should tell you the memory available
