Hallo, i have a problem playing svcd and avi files on the pc

When i start playing an svcd file, i can use zoomplayer, windvd or mediaplayer, it will play alright but after +/- 5 minutes the sound(avi) or the video will stop(svcd)
I have this problem with all the avi and svcd files on my computer, and it is since i did a reinstall of my OS (windows 2000 pro).
I have a complete windows update and servicepack 3.
Also i have directx 8.1
i use divx 5.2

Someone with a solution ???????
