Quick SVCD Question

Using TMPGEnc i converted my avi file to an mpeg an then to SVCD with standard compliance turned off in NERO.

My stand-alone DVD player will not play the mpeg files using a higher bitrate other then the SVCD standard for PAL.
Why is this?

It's because the dvd can't read cd-r/w faster than about 2x cdspeed(=the max SVCD bitrate).
