  1. I just bought a Sony DVP-NS315 DVD player. I used PrimoDVD to burn the movie and tested it. The player says cannot read disk. I called Sony and they say that the movie was recorded in VR mode. They say I need it to be in Video Mode. I'm not sure if or how I can do this.

I'm using a Pioneer A04 burner and PrimoDVD on Win ME.

Is there an option I can set or am I stuck with only burning VR discs?

    Thanks

  2. How did you rip the movie?

Did you rip the entire movie, or just the main movie stream?

Did you use IFOEDIT to "Get VTS Sectors"?

Are the DVD video files in the VIDEO_TS directory on the DVD-R?

Post the entire process that you used to copy the movie so that people can help you find your problem.

  3. 1. I ripped the MI2 using SmartRipper and dropped it in a video_ts dir.

    2. I then took DVD2AVI to find out the VOD is.

    3. I used InfoEdit to strip the dvd to just the movie using VOB Extras.

    4. I reopened the dvd to apply the region free setting and remove the P-Ups.

    5. I also selected the Get VTS sectors to re-create the IFO files because I'm creating just a movie only dvd-r.

6 I then burnt the movie to a dvd-r and a dvd-rw in the video_ts dir. PrimoDVD didn't complain about this step.

    7. I tried both in my player and both said Cannot Play Disc. I then tried them in my computer and they auto ran using my PowerDVD software.

When I called Sony they told me I need to be in something called Video Mode and not in VR mode (which he figured I was in). I'm looking to find out how to switch to Video Mode as my DVD Player doesn't support VR mode.

    I'm using a Pioneer A04 burner and PrimoDVD 2.0

    Thanks

  4. 1). VIDEO_TS directory needs to be capitalized. I don't use PrimoDVD, but hopefully it does this for you.

2). Just for completeness sack, can you list all the files in your VIDEO_TS directory? I mainly want to make sure you have a VTS_01_00.IFO file, but also want to know the others.

3). It seems like you have done everything correctly, especially if your software player plays the DVD automatically. What media are you using? According to this site, your standalone should be able to play both -R/RW media. Have you tried high quality media (Pioneer, Apple) or just the cheap stuff?

From what I can tell, VR mode seems to be a special method of recording onto DVD-R/RW media to allow for longer record times (used by standalone DVD recorders). I'm not sure how/why PrimoDVD would write your DVD in this mode, but like I said, I don't use PrimoDVD.

  5. Hmm I noticed the VIDEO_TS is not caps. I'll give that a try.

    I'm using a non-name dvd-r and a Pioneer DVD-RW.

Here is a list of the dir:

    Video_ts.bup
    Video_ts.ifo
    Video_ts.vob
    Default.pls
    VTS_01_0.bup
    VTS_01_0.ifo
    VTS_01_1.vob
    .
    .
    .
    VTS_01_5.vob

    All in CAPS

BTW: What software do you burn with?

    Thanks!!

  6. I burn with the DVD (UDF/ISO) template in Nero. Try capitalizing VIDEO_TS and see if that helps first, then try different DVD-R media (although the Pioneer DVD-RW media should work). Also, what is the default.pls file for?

Also, make sure PrimoDVD is burning in UDF. I'm not sure where that setting would be, but DVD's must be in UDF to play in standalones.

  7. Ya I got someone to try the lower case video_ts folder in his player and it worked fine.

I tried it with CAPS and it work in mine. I guess not all players care if the folder is CAPS or not. Oh well I'm happy its working.

    Thanks for all the help.
