  1. i just ordered the pioneer 104 dvd burner and a whole bunch of dvd-rs

then i saw on this site that if you have have win98se you can't rip dvds and then put them on dvdr...the reason behind it is that win98se has a 4gb file size limit...
there are also some guides on this site that use a few programs behind this whole process...except for one guide which made it seem very simple

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/sefy/?id=authoring1.html

in this guide you just rip and then put all the files that you ripped unto the dvd-r using nero... this is simple enough...but am i missing something...
i haven't tried this process yet but it seems logical

according to other guides you have to create .m2v file from smart ripper and that .m2v file might be bigger then 4 gb (which is the reason fat 32 operating systems like win98se wont work)

the sefy's smart ripper ripping method doesn't even create such a file
    so whats the deal here?

  2. LOL thats a joke i been using 98se forever with my pioneer 104 never had any problems. You dont have to worry i ripp and creat dvds everyday. Sometimes ripping more than 8 gigs. Trust me you wont have any probs!!!

  3. well thats a relief...
do you use smartripper and then nero all the ripped filed to the dvd-r..or do you use one of those ifoedit or mpg2 shrink thing...
my impression is that if you want to just have the movie on the dvdr you dont have to use anything but ripper and nero...is this right?

Like Digital3mpire says don't worry about it,

That 4gb rule only applies to if your capturing from TV etc.

  5. If you burn straightly from the VIDEO_TS folder (with Nero or Prassi primo), then you'll have no problem as long as your file structure is ok. But if you want to create an image first and burn from that, then your image file may not be greater than 4Gb.

  6. so what if you want to rip a movie to an m2v and ac3 file to reauthor in Spruceup and the m2v is 4.1 gb and the ac3 is 250mb like quite a few that i've done, how does Win98 do that ?.

If you can it's far better to have at least one partition using NTFS then you don't have to worry about file sizes
