TMPGEnc should handle ASF just fine, but just incase your have a locked codec, try installing the Nimo codec pack.

    Also set DirectShow priorities higher.

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

ASF can also be opened in Vdub 1.3C

Will it load into Vdub 1.3C ?

If you use the source range in TMPGEnc and start a few minuets past that section, does it still give problems ?

If its a Bad ASF you may need to use Graphedit to convert to AVI first

  7. it woulnt even load to the Vdub 1.3C ; unless i set it up wrong.
on TMPGEnc;how do you set the source range....never done that before.

Just rename it to ASF then load into Vdub !!

Ok Its streaming in the background... 01:21 Min long !!! and the server is dam slow 500 Kbps, it it will take a while to save.

OK, I now have 183, 576 of a downloaded file, which I dont know what the heck it is that will teach me to use a new capture program.

So I started again with the ASFRecorder (Old trusty) and its saving it as "nightwish_300.wmv" will see what this one is

Ok, the ASF Recorder works just fine, paste the url into it, and it asks for the file name (nightwish_300.wmv)

ASF Recorder saved the file to my hard drive in about 15 min, I then loaded it into TMPGEnc, and tested a quick conversion.

    No problems....

  13. I tried that just now....i converted it using the asfrecorder then I used tmpeg ; it made a 809 mb file wich was kinda distorted from the original and the video and audio did not sync together. i dont know what I am doing wrong.

Is that an Intel CPU ?

Don't know what your problem is, I made an Mpeg 1 out of it, and it was crystal clear and no sound problem. Converted the first 10 minuets using TMPGEnc. When you say you converted it, did you load the url into AsfRecorder to download it, it removes the protection on download.

When you have it on your hard drive, you can rename it to ASF, then some programs will then load it, and react differently. What did you convert the WMV into with TMPGEnc ?. Did you use a template

You could also save out the sound for use later File > Output to file > WAV

Don't know what your problem is, as it works just fine here.

I also did a test in Graphedit, and that also works.

Many of the other WMV to AVI/Mpeg programs will also work, now that you have it downloaded via ASFRecorder

    Mpeg capture in Vdub

Ok, did a full conversion from WMV to DivX AVI with MP3 audio, below is the info for graphedit, I chose the DivX output just incase the raw AVI maybe too big to fit on your hard drive.

    Graphedit

1 file Render media file, select "nightwish_300.wmv"

    A graph is now drawn

2 delete everything "after" Windows Media "Audio" Decoder

    (Click box and press delete)

3, delete everything "after" Windows Media "Video" decoder

    This is now the graph

nightwish_300.wmv stream 1 > ASF ACM Handler > Windows Media Audio Decoder >

nightwish_300.wmv stream 2 > ASF ACM Handler > Windows Media Video Decoder >

Ok your now ready to add some more to this graph

    4, Graph > Insert Filters >Audio compressors > MP3

    5, Graph > Insert Filters >Video Compressors > Mpeg 4 low motion

6, Graph > Insert Filters >DirectShow filers > AVI Mux

7, Graph > Insert Filters >DirectShow filters > file writer
    (enter nightwish_300.avi)

Now we will connect the filters

    nightwish_300.wmv stream 1 > ASF ACM Handler > Windows Media Audio Decoder > MP3 > AVI MuX (1) > File Writer (1)

    nightwish_300.wmv stream 2 > ASF ACM Handler > Windows Media Video Decoder > MP4 Low motion > AVI MuX (2) > File Writer (2)

Just click and drag the output to connect the line to the inputs.

    Click Play >>
The conversion will start and you can click stop after a min, and test the output. Click Start again to do the whole lot.

Progress can be shown by right clicking the "AVI MUX" and selecting properties. It should take about 30 min or so, depending on your CPU

Unlike other WMV to AVI that just changes the file type, this conversion does a better job if there are any problems in the source.

  16. I am still lost in this file conversion. in the graphedit program I cant find the 4th part of the instructions on how to do it: 4, Graph > Insert Filters >Audio compressors > MP3

there is no MP3 in the options....I tried other methods in the audio compressor but it didnt work. any suggestions?
