  1. Hi all,
    I thought I read somewhere that it may be possible to rip a DVD movie and encode it to VCD with a CD-R drive without having the DVD-ROM drive or DVD-RW drive - is this possible???

  2. As far as I know you don't need a dvd burner but you have to have a dvdrom drive to read the dvd.

  3. Yeah, common sense makes you think that. Thats why I have not been into DVD ripping cause I dont have a DVD-ROM drive on my PC but I saw an advertisement in a pop-up that touted some software that allowed you to rip a DVD with a CD-RW drive. If so that would be just too easy!!

    If I were to buy a DVD-ROM (not RW) drive how much would it run me. BTW - whats a very very good DVD-ROM drive to buy?????

  4. I had a expensive Toshiba dvd drive i paid about $150 bucks for I got a replacement it was junk too. I spent about $180 buck for it. I ended up returning it for a $40 Hitatchi brown box DVD-Rom it run flawlessly and plays everything. Cheers Will
