  1. Just got Pinnacle Studio version 8.1.

It will now do menus and author your movies, it will "write" the movie to Hard Drive for viewing, all you need do is copy to DVD.
Have a nice day. thank you.

My Studio 8 is 8.0.75 - says is latest version. Are you sure you have an 8.1? Also, when I try to produce a DVD, just one movie, no menus, no chapters, it goes through a long rendering process, then errors out when trying to compile the DVD. Any thoughts? I have a 2.5 GHz P4, 120 Gb drive, 1 Gb RAM, WinXP system, so I should not be "underpowered"! I am about ready to give up on Studio 8, but there seem to be no "free" programs to author. I can clearly edit an AVI file, and use TmpgEnc to encode it to the DVD Mpeg standard, but it still needs to be "authored" to burn with Nero or such. HELP!

  3. A new beta, Studio 8.03.12 was released this week. Check out the beta forum here: http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/read_threads.asp?WebboardID=1&ForumID=704&lng=1&SectionID=143

Saw the beta listed. Is it stable enough to try, and do we think it solves the problem of authoring a DVD?

  5. I went from loving Studio 8 to hating it and am now back to loving it (sort of). If I capture using Virtual Dub and edit the avi with Studio it never gives me any trouble rendering and compiling.

I strongly suggest you go to the Pinacle Forum and get involved in discusions there. People are very helpful but as always some of us get impatient and go off on rants (with some justification) and others cop a superior attitude (sometimes with justification). All in all it is a good forum and lots of help.

Appreciate that. I loved Studio 7, and 8 looks very nice. No problem capturing in a variety of formats, editing and outputting the avi file. It's DVD authoring that is the hangup. Yes, I have posted on that board, with the prevailing sentiment seeming to be "wait for the patch." Hmmm.....

    Hi guys,

Maybe a little off topic here ( sorry ), but as I have a Pinnacle DV capture card and Pinnacle Studio 7, I would like to know the best settings and codec in order to capture from Mini-DV.
I used 720 x 480 and DV codec . Would like to know if YUV codec achieves better quality ( this is my main concern ).

To encode I will use TMPGEnc , and as I understand will have to deinterlace.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thank's

It's in DV already in the camera. Transferring via firewire into Pinnacle in DV is the best bet. No reason, I don't think, to re-encode.

Back on topic... I did download the new patch on the Pinnacle board, and it seems to have fixed the problem. Just authored a DVD with 45 minute video from VHS tape. Looks great!
