    Griff,

I'm certainly not an expert but do have a suspicion. I have a lot of Korean co-workers all limited to modem usage. But, I found a number of Korean music videos on the web, burned them to VCDs, and every co-worker I gave the disks to experienced no problem with them. But, like me (I use an Apex AD1100-W), they all use relatively cheap DVD players. I took a copy of one of those VCDs over to a friend's house (he uses a Sony player) and it wouldn't even acknowledge the disk's existence (the "No Disk" warning).

So, my suspicion is that problems watching VCDs are related to two primary factors -- the quality of the medium (CD-R/CD-RW), the pickyness of the player, or both. I get the impression that Sony DVD players are exceptionally picky. When I read my friend's user manual on his Sony DVD player, it said something about being able to read "professionally burned" VCDs while not recognizing CD-Rs. A CD-RW might "trick" the Sony into thinking it's reading a professionally burned VCD. Then again, the trick might not work through the entire playing of it if the Sony notices some kind of flaw in the medium it considers inconsistent with a professional burn.

So, with a Sony, the best advice is probably to use the highest quality CD-RW medium you can get (and hope for the best).

One note ... since you mention skipping/pausing on other DVD players, the problem might also be an incompatible burn. I burn with Nero. What software do you use?
