What is the maximum amount of megabyte's you can store on a XVCD? Every time I use this site's VCD Calculater my file sizes always come up like 710 megabytes. Has anybody ever stored close to 800 megabyte's on a XVCD.

  2. On an 80min CD, you can fit about 796 MB without overburning.

On a XVCD? Some people on this message board say the highest you can fit is 720MB's? And everytime I use TMPGEnc for 2-pass XVCD, the file-size always comes up as 710MB's.

The size of your mpg is dependant on your bitrate, regardless of what you are making. Size equals bits per sec X the number of seconds. If you want to increase the size of your mpg to 800MB's so that it will totally fill the disk then increase your bitrate. You should use a bitrate calculator to determine what bitrate to use to fit x amount of playtime on x amount of disks. Remember though that the higher bitrate you use on an xvcd the less chance it will play on any given hardware player. You can find a bitrate calculator in the tools section, I recommend FitCd.

As for the capacity of the media, its close to 800MB's for an 80 min cdr and 740MB's for a 74 min cdr. When you burn in mode 2, which vcds and svcds use you get to use this total capacity. When you burn in mode 1, which data disks use, then additional error checking is required so you have less actual room for data. Thats why you can only fit 700MB's on 80 min cdrs and 650MB's on 74 min cdrs.

  5. VCDs and SVCDs (and their variants), all burn the video tracks in Mode2 Form2 where you have 2324 bytes of user data per sector.

An 80min CD contains 360,000 sectors.

Do the maths and you can work out max. capacity (without overburning).

Remember that there is about a 10 second minimum overhead (i.e., approx. 750 sectors).

Why does someone who has been on this site for 6 months still think this, Puertorican your short changing yourself, 795mb is the perfect size on a 80min CD.

No problem, i was just wondering why no-one was setting you straight, you've been losing nearly 200mb per average SVCD.
