  1. hi all , my problem is this .....i downloaded an mp3 file and tried to play it on the P.C, but received the error message "no combination of filters could be found to render the stream", so i then tried to play the other mp3 files already on my system and they played fine. Perplexed and a little bit miffed at the unrecognisable file i downloaded ( it is quit sizeable and took a while to download ) i then gave it to nero to convert to an audio cd, which it done without any problem and the resulting cd plays fine on my stereo.....great! My Q is this ..why did nero recognise the file and windows media player didn't? And is there anyway to remedy the codec problem, i thought all mp3 files were the same but obviously not. It was definately an mp3 file cause it said so in the proprties. I have tried installing the nimo codec pack ,but still no luck if anybody can shed any light on this prob i would be most gratefull thanx in advance
Eh!.......don't know why it's doing that, it worked perfectly well on my system !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I'm as curious as you. What size bitrate etc etc etc did the file have ? did you try any other mp3 player ?

  3. supreme thanx for the quick reply, but i'm afraid i deleted the file after burning to CD , so can't check the bitrate ( i'm not sure I'd know how to) the only other information i could give you is .....file was D/L from Kazaa , when file was complete it took on the "windows media player" logo , I tried to play it on power dvd (no luck), even tried loading it to tmpgenc but got the same error message or something like it. I had a bit of a snoop about on the NET , and apparantly there's loads of different codecs about for Mp3's, each encoding at a different bitrate and compression method e.t.c , which is OK but the unfortunate thing is , when i call up properties all i get is Audio unknown..................How do i get information on the file if windows won't give it to me ( is there a prog to do this )........................the reason i'm so interested in this is this is the 3rd time i've downloaded such a file and i feel that these won't be the last ...any thoughts supreme....is there an Ultimate mp3 codec pack to D/L..................or is there simply an easy way to tell which sort of file you have actually D/Ld..........................CHRIST just when you think you've got this Encode/Decode thing under wraps, the ****** swings back and Kicks you in the nuts. Any thoughts and I mean, ANY thoughts on this are greatly appreciated Thanx for the time and effort

  5. As far as I can see, WMP doesnt like the mp3 pro codec. I made a few mp3s with it and it all sounded garbled and played fast. All other players run fine, and Nero recognized it, and Musicmatch was able to convert it. Its Microsoft.

  6. Thanx guys for taking the time time to reply, I think the answer to all of this is to install a new mp3 player ( which do you recomenned , I'm running Windows/M.E ), but i think the upshot of all of this is this .... Thinking I knew the map , then turned a corner and walked in to a wall.... and it still hurts , but answer me this ..How does Bill Gates still get away with the shit he's shovilin........................and the shit I'm still runnin. guys thanx for takin the time , and if you or anybody else, has something to say on these matters i'm right here listening..................and you know ??????? I actually call this a hobby

Winamp has served me well, for 7 years. They keep their software simple and it runs smoothly.

  8. Winamp all the way.

BTW, I don't think Winamp was around 7 years ago... I remember using it when it was in version 1.1 and that was only 5 and bit years ago.

  10. on some systems I've seen winamp freeze up when someone opened it and pressed play. The way to bypass this : left click outside winamp after pressing play. :/

Six years, then? I remember using winamp since my college days, which were roughly 7 years ago. Maybe it was my second year, which would be five years ago.

I'm not sure if this will help, but try disabling the mini browser. The mini browser would freeze my computer, when I was running windows 98. It might not make a difference, but it won't hurt to try.

  18. I still love WMP 6.4. Maybe i am just "old school" but I like a small simple player that doesnt try to sell me something everytime that open it. And for the mp3 codecs that WMP doesnt support, I use musicmatch. I also use it for encoding. God I love musicmatch.

  19. If you like a small simple player, I strongly recommend Winamp!

Maybe that file you had was an ogg or something? I dunno if wmp runs those as i don't use that codec my self. But now that you burned it our it's just to rip it into mp3 and there you go
