Check to see if DMA is on. Sometimes when you install a drive DMA gets switched off.

  3. I've found that single-layer DVDs will rip at 4-6x speed (Pioneer 104 using Smart Ripper) but dual-layer discs only ever rip at 2x

Don't quote me on this because im new.
But as far as i know....Go 2 my computer and click properties. Click device manager and find your IDE controllers. Check the properties of your drives and go to advanced setting and there you will find which mode you are in....DMA or PIO mode.

Mine also B-boy. Im running Windows XP Pro and my drives are set to DMA already. As a matter a fact, it's set to DMA if available.
I hope i do not run into any probs when i install my burner.

  8. yeh mine is also set to "if available" for some reason i stripped " the golden child" ( eddie murphey ) & it crept up in speed through out the whole ripping period, it actually made it almost to 5! then i ripped "Sword Fish" and it went back at 2 x so maybe "BrianWescombe_UK" was right maybe it's just the dual layered discs that are slower, Golden child has been the fisrt Ripp i have had over 2 x for a while, maybe it's on the comback, ha ha well i hope so
    thanks for all your help

  9. I have not encountered this problem however I have read this similar question a couple times before, and from the answers I have read posted, Windows XP and Win 2K both seem to effect ripping speed.

Why I dont know, have a browse through the forum here and see what You can find

    good luck with your search...

  10. I just was looking through the guides & i couldn't see a guide that said you can do a straight back up of a DVD if it's under 4.7gb? can you do this without having to encode any video & audio files?
i take it you can but just wanted to ask instead of making coasters,
    thanks
