I have been testing out my new DVD player since its compatible with anything it seems.
I made an XSVCD at 480x480 @ 6000kbits. I noticed it was squished down and made letter box style. Is this normal or did I mess up a setting when converting the avi?

Letter box style is nothing to do with XSVCD or any formats. This is a setting of display. Let say if you have wide screen 16:9 movie and your setting is keep aspect ratio then you will have wide screen looking mpeg (black bar on top and bottom). Or if you have full screen movie then after encoded you should have full screen as well.

@ROBO - what are you viewing it on, a TV or a monitor? and if on a monitor what are you viewing it with? and a picture would also help if you can swing it...
End of Line.
