  1. Hello,
I am brand new to the idea of creating video CDs. I would like to take videos I have taped on my miniDV camcorder and burn them to VCD format.

I have Easy CDCreator 5.1 on my computer as well as Microsoft Movie Maker.

I would like to know what software I should buy. I am not interested in editing or doing too much fancy stuff with these videos right now.

Also, do I need additional "encoder" software or is that included in these editing software packages.

Sorry - if my questions are stupid, but I just don't know where to begin.

    Thanks, Marie

    Okay Marie:
If the final product you will be making is VCDs, you may not be using Movie Maker. It does not encode exactly to the form at you will usee to create your VCD.
Next, please read the Newbie guides. The info they give you will be invaluable from the very first time you make your first VCD.
Now, the two programs you may be using since you probably do not own any of the heavy hitting, high end programs yet are Virtual Dub, and TMPGEnc. They are free if you are only using them for VCDs, to make SVCDs or DVDs with them, you have only 30 days to use TMPGEnc before it disables this function.

Now you procedure will go something like this: Capture the video, check the video for any junk frames, save the audio (VDub), then encode the video and audio at the same time to a file (TMPGEnc)your Easy CD Creator can use to make your VCDs. Any questions so far?
    Hello.

  3. Thank you for the help.
I will spend as much time as necessary reading the Newbie info.

Is there a way of getting TMPGEnc and Virtual Dub for longer than 30 days?

Also, after I become familiar with these and can make VCDs, what would you suggest for video editing software?

    Thanks,
    Marie

VDub is free, and you just pay $50 to register TMPGEnc and it's fully functional forever.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
