  1. After doing some browsing through these forums, I figured out why my LaserDisc player (Pioneer CLD-C504) won't play the VideoCDs I'm making for it. The LaserDisc player needs a different format called CDV not VideoCD.

Does anyone know how to make the CDV-type disks? Does it require the same MPEG-1 encoding like the VideoCDs?

    Thanks for your help!

  2. I hope this will help. A CDV is a total different animal than a VCD. CDV stands for Compact Disc Video. The format was originally that: a cd with video. At it's introduction, it was a cd sized disc that contained around 15-20 minutes of audio and around 5 minutes of video. The audio portion could be played in any ordinary cd player. But, the video could only be played in a laserdisc player. The reason for this was, the video was analog not digital as in a VCD. The format didn't last very long. But, all laserdisc players made, after CDV's introduction, can play them. The term CDV was also applied to many 8 and 12 inch laserdiscs after the formats birth. Why? I don't know, but they were mostly music titles. No laserdisc player will play VCDs except the DVL-919 (I think).

  3. I forgot to answer your actual question. There is no way to make a CDV. Since it is analog not digital.
