    I just reinstalled my capture stuff, so I know that has something to do with it because I used to be able to process from an mpeg2 source with TMPGEnc, but now I can't.

    Anyone know what I have to do to get it to recognize the MPEG2 files again?

    I tried "TMPGEnc MPEG2 Plugin" and clicked on the .exe file but still, TMPGEnc will not open mp2 files anymore.

    What can I do, this is critical to me...?

    hey drewson99,
    By any chance did you have the Elecard MPEG2 Codec installed before? I've used it in the past and it worked for me. I did find that it can screw up MPEG-2 playback thru Windows Media Player (sync issues), but if your using any other software to playback with you should be able get away with it. Myself I prefer to frameserve thru DVD2AVI but you've been around long enough to know that trick.

    at this point I am not so concerned about playback, I just want to be able to use the mpeg2 files as a source in tmpgenc. is there a way I can use dvd2avi to do this?

    will the elecard codec help tmpgenc open my mpeg2 files?

    TMPGEnc Plus, needs a special codec. If you were using the free version with the 30 day limit, the Nimo codec pack codec's would be fine.

    But for the Plus version you need to install "Power DVD 4" and that codec will let you load a SVCD and convert again.

    Morning all.

    drewson99,
    when you re-installed (fresh, I presume) you in effect, wipped out your codecs.
    You need to re-install them all over again. How? Simple!!

    Question:
    What was the MPEG-2 player OR any player you used when playing your VCDs and
    SVCDs etc. ? ?

    1,
    In any case, you need to re-install them. However, more than likely, you'll
    need to install PowerDVD or WinDVD. They are both good, but if you haven't
    already D/L'd any of them, you'll vae to D/L at least ONE of them. Once you
    do this, you'll have MPEG1 and MPEG-2 back in business and its away you go
    again.

    2,
    Which TMPG version did you use ? ? I would start using v2.53 for now on to
    avoid this (not that it matters) but from this point on, w/ v2.57 I believe,
    SUMAI decided to sell us out, and suck MS$S's azz, and busted out azz's
    wide open. So, drop v2.57 ie and start using v2.53 or earlier!! We've ben
    sold out! ...Good guy, gone BAD $M$ buy! Well, he did last for what, 3 years
    now, I think. Anyways, he finally sold us out.

    Well, it's time for a NEWBIE to walk the MPEG block. I'd do it, but no NOTHING
    about opening an AVI file ie and then CREATING MPEG frames. Wish I did, cause
    I wouldn't sell ANYONE out! Course, my specialty is Pascal (Delphi)
    and from what I understand, there is no frame-work or MPEG support of
    any kind for this language - course, I could be wrong, but all the searching
    I have done for Delphi have turn up empty, less anybody knows something
    I don't?

    Oh, right, back to drew's problem, he, he...

    Ok, to re-cap... you need to do the following:
    * D/L either PowerDVD or WinDVD (my favorite)
    * install either one (both are ok to install at same time)
    * D/L TMPG v2.53 or earlier
    * D/L TMPG v2.53's VFAPI plug-in
    * install both
    * in TMPG, you need to make sure that your VFAPI plug-in follows this order:
    Under Option/Environment Setting.../VFAPI Plugin-in
    -- [x]AVI VFW...
    -- [x]AVI2(OpenDML)...
    -- [x]Wave File reader...
    -- [x]DVD2AVI Project File...
    -- [x]DirectShow Multimedia...
    -- [x]TMPE project file reader 2.53

    Well, the above works for me w/ MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding in that order,
    but can probably be slitely different.

    Good luck.

    now I got tmpgenc to open the files as a video source, but not both video annd audio like it used to.

    I can get around this by using dvd2avi to create an mpa audio file but I would rather do it the old way where it uses the file for both audio and video.

    Anyone know why this is happening?

    drew,

    make sure that in TMPG, down near the bottom, where Settings;
    Load and Save are, you have (o) System (Video+Audio) selected.
    Sometimes, I make the mistake of clicking other options because I am
    just tooo quick at the draw! ...and have no audio or no video.

    Also, make sure you follow the list in my previous post above.

    Netscape mail:
    * Edit/Preferences/Mail Servers/Edit.../[x]Check for mail every [1] minutes
    ...and just turn up your "ding-donnnng!" mail sound

    Explorer mail:
    sorry, can't get it to work any more. some umteen times crashes cased it to
    never work again.

    Don't bother w/ refreshing your posts, as you will be creating false post
    counts!! Not a good practice, especially when Mods are working w/ statistics
    for this FORUM.

    no, I mean hitting the refresh button in my browser to see if anyone has posted a reply to my question. I try hard to never bump my posts, unless I see tons of people viewing but not replying.

    OK, still sounds like a codec problem, but try this;

    TMPGEnc
    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
    right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

    WinDVD does not have the correct codec, there are only 3 supported by TMPGEnc Plus, Power DVD is one of them
