    Okay, leave the golden tresses alone and do the following:

    1. Load the AVI file into your Virtual Dub.
    2. Select Video-->Scan video stream for errors, and remove any junk frames.
    3. Select Audio-->Full Processing Mode
    4. Select Audio-->Conversion-->44100 Hz
    5. Select File-->Save as Wav....
    6. Launch TMPGEnc, close the wizard
    7. Load the original video as input video, and the new wav file as output video.
    8. Select Load and your favorite template
    9. Select Start and the resultant file should be what you had in mind.

    thanks i will give it a try, the other strange thing that i forgot to mention was the fact that i can convert using nero's in-built encoder but you dont get any options about changing to widescreen etc, and suing nero seems to take a lot longer.

    cheers pete

  4. In TMPG, try increasing the directshow priority to 4 under Environmental Settings, in the options. Turn everything else to 0.

    well i'm new to all this, but when i'm in tmpgenc i chose video cd - ntsc (mpeg-1 350x240 29.97fps), put in the video and audio files, switched 4:3 to 16:9 for aspect ratio, video type is on non-interlace, and i didn't check source range/clip frame/noise reduction so all those settings i'm taking it are on default, switched to cdr-80 mins (vcd/svcd), chose where i wanted to have the file converted and it auto did it from there. i'm not sure if thats what you were asking, but its not showing a "template" option.

    Could you encode it again, please? This time, when you launch TMPGEnc, turn the wizard off. Load your video and audio, select Load. A list of templates will appear. Choose the one that applies here. Select Start. Give us the results when you are done.
