  1. I have an AC3-Wav file that I want to convert to Dolby Surround. I cannot find any way to convert it. Everything that I find only uses ac3 as the source. Does anyone know of a way to convert a 5.1 Ac3-wav to a regular wav. Downmixing to Dolby Surround?

ac3 wav file ? is is it a wav file or a ac3 file (ie in windows media when you play file does it play audio or sound like hiss?) ..

an ac3 file can be anything from mono to 8 channel ..

if you are trying to convert a wav file to ac3 (dolby digital encoding) you will need an encoder - 2 ch i believe you can find as freeware and over 2ch you will need one of several software or hardware encoders..
these encoders take 1 - 6 mono wave files (or 1 stereo file) and convert (compress) to an ac3 file .. it is a lossy format so converting ac3 back to wav involves a fair amount of loss if its re-encoded again..

its either a wav file (there are several types of wav files but ac3 isnt one of them) or its a ac3 file .. what you descibe is a ac3 file (hiss in media player) but someone has changed the file name to xxxx.wav most likly ..

change it back to xxx.ac3 and use besweet http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/besweet.html (there is a GUI avaible there also) .. with this you can convert the ac3 to a wav file or a mpg audio file (mp2)

  5. Maybe I should explain what I am doing. I have a 5.1 Audio wav file that is Dolby Digital. I can burn this wav file and make a dolby digital audio CD. When I play it on my DVD player and receiver it comes up as Dolby Digital. This audio file is a sound test to check all the channels on my set up. I want to downmix this wav so I can see if Dolby Prologic 2 on my receiver is comparable to the Dolby Digital. If it is, I am going to start making my own SVCDs. Hopefully that makes some sense. I will try BeSweet and renaming it, even though I think I tried it. I was doing so many things last week, I forget... Thanks for helping though.

  6. Just an update, I tried to rename it and convert it. The resulting mp2 has the same hissing as the wav file. So it doesn't seem to be converted. I mean it is still 2 min and now only 2 megs, but it seems that it thinks it is a normal wav file. I know when I try to rename the .wav file to .ac3. It just keeps getting bad frame errors, or illegal frames.
