I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I can't find it.
Can you burn a VCD image to a DVD-Rom to produce a very long VCD.
(8x longer than a CD)
If so, how many regular DVD players will be able to use it?

Yes you can... http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcddvdr.htm
Look in the dvdplayers section to find out if your dvdplayer supports DVD-VCD"Why I never drink water; Fish **** in it !"
