  1. I start up TMPGE (latest version) and start the conversion proccess, but it gets about 2 minutes into it and my computer reboots. I have checked its not overheating (took the case of and stuck it next to the window, and have a cpu temp moniter), have reinstalled the ASPI drivers, shut down all programs, tried a range of different settings, but to no avail. The real kick in the kidnys is the fact that I somehow got X-MEN to convert fine, but I dont know why that worked (tried it again, and it crashes now). Also, I dont think it can be the power because its just reading from the HDD. What the hell could be causing this!?

    Specs:

    Windows XP -SP1 not installed
    1.47 Athlon XP
    256MBKingmax RAM
    60GB Seagate HDD
Soltek ...DR5 Motherboard (onboard A'97 Sound-- I think is what its called)
    Sony DVD player
    Abit Siluro T400 Geforce2 card.

  2. 50 bucks its your power supply. (assuming you have in fact ruled out heat)

  3. That's a good thought - what is the wattage of your power supply, boolean01?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. Im using a 350w power supply. Some more news though, I am starting to think it MAY be heat, since my computer kept rebooting everytime it hit windows until I turned it off for a while. But what I dont get is that I can run extremly CPU intensive apps/games and the system is fine. I did notice that my computer jumped from 32' to 51' in about 2 minutes when I started trying to convert again. Im scouring the net now to find a the typical operating temperature of my cpu (AMD Athlon 1.47 XP), but if someone here knows, could you please post.

    Have you checked your cooler?

If your mobo has a VIA chipset, you should install VCool software... it is amazing!!!

You should also try a HARDWARE forum... this is not a conversion (video creation) problem.

  6. 350w doesn't leave a whole hell of a lot to spare with an Athlon XP under the hood. You said you play games, so you probably have a high end graphics card which sucks down a bunch of power as well, and who knows what else you have hooked up. Power supplies that are putting out close to the max wattage to fail out much quicker then power supplies that have room to spare. I would try at least a 400w if not 450w, and see if your problem doesn't go away. You can always return the power supply if you don't need it. Power supply problems also manifest themselves with wierd unexplained crashes, and other random bugs if you are having any of these.

  7. Are you overclocking that chip?
If so, go back to default settings and give it another go.
Chips set up correctly (or heatsinked/cooled sufficiently when overclocked) do not over heat.
I run my Athlon XP 2000 at well over 2100 settings with sufficient cooling, voltage tweaks, etc. CPU will hit 65C during a very processor intensive task, like mpeg-2 encoding.
    Just a thought.
