problem with windows media encoder 7

I've been using windows media encoder 7 on windows xp for months, to convert mpeg1, mpeg2, and divx files to 500k wmv. Then today when I start encoder 7 it crashes when it tries to open the source file. This happened all the sudden on both of my computers...but yesterday it worked just fine. So my question is does anyone know why this happened, how to fix it, or is there another way I can convert mpeg1 and mpeg2 to wmv?

I don't know if this has any thing to do with it, now TPGEnc2.53 won't open my mpeg2 files either...I just installed nimo5 codec bundle (full) and it still won't work. I can play the mpeg2 files just fine but can't open them with TPGEnc.

Also I tried to use the mpeg2 plugin for TPGEnc and now the video will open but not the audio.

Is there anyway to 100% unistall all codecs and try again, because that might be a problem...I have no idea though
