Now im no buff with this DVD lark, but someone told me that theres some kit out there that lets you play your dvd on a standalone and record it straight to your dvd writer. I know there is cables now available for demacrovision so you can record from the dvd standalone to video, so maybe theres something available for dvd to dvd now, can anyone comment on this as it would make life alot easier for all of us. I was told that theres some sort of equipment at pc world priced around £100 BUT NO ONE AT PC WORLD knows there all daft, lol.

why would you need to go through all of that when you can just rip/region free/demacrovision from the dvd-rom on your computer

There are standalone dvd writers that can accept just about any video input and record to dvd in real time. Of course you will still need a way to bypass the macrovision, such as a capable dvd player or demacrovision device which you could probably purchase on the internet, which is completely legal by the way. These standalone dvd writers are not cheap though, certainly not £100.
