Lets start this off by letting everyone know I'm reletively new at this...I've done a few movies....but I'm very computer literate. This ones got me stumped. Windows 2000, more specifically, VStrip, or any other ripper for that matter wont rip a full DVD. It will go about half-way, then give an error, ripping failed. EVERYTIME! however...i have a dual-boot with windows ME (yuck) when I try it there, I works fine! I know, I know, the first thing I checked was the ASPI Layer...I got the latest updates...no go. I also made sure my Player was unlocked. Any suggestoins? Also, on a random side note, in 2000, each time i insert a disk in the DVD player, it gives an error : specified drive is invalid. Everything works fine! Its just annoying! Thanx for the time.

Hi!
I also have a Win2k based PC but not dual boot. I am using SmartRipper to rip DVD's. This tool works fine for me. You might give this a shot. For your info, here are my PC specs:
H/W: P4/2GHz, Intel D850MV motherboard, 512MB RDRAM, 120GB WD HDD (7200 rpm), ATI Radeon 7000/64MB AGP, LG DRD-8160B DVD-ROM, TDK veloCD RW 32/10/40.
S/W: Win2K Professional with SP2, SmartRipper 2.41, DVD2AVI, TMPGEnc 2.47, Nero 5.5 plus the ASPI layers and all required drivers.
I can convert any DVD to VCD using the above, thanks to VCDHelp.com.*** My computer can beat me at chess, but is no match when it comes to kick-boxing. *** -
Eskonanu,
I'm just venturing a guess here, but since your dual booting between ME & Win2k I assume your partitions are FAT32. Depending on how you have SmartRipper configured it looks to me your running smack into the 4 gigabyte limit. Do you have it set up to rip one large vob? Look on the setting's page and check to see what your max file size is set to. If it's above 4000mb you going to have to reduce it. It's been a while since I used SmartRipper so I can't remember what the default setting was but I'm sure someone around here can get you that info. -
Hmm...I tried SmartRipper, no go. The Win2K load is on a NTFS partition so I dont have the 4gig limitation, I really have no clue what the problem could be. I guess its easy enough to boot to ME to do it, but as of right now, thats all i would be using it for. Its just annoying not knowing what the problem is. thanks for the speedy reply, by the way. Any other ideas, let me know.

Is the location you are saving the ripped DVD also on an NTFS partition?
I also use Win 2K pro, but I set all my drives to NTFS and just ripped a move with smartripper without any problems(movie was 7gigs long). -
Is everything set up and showing fine in your BIOS ? What about in the Device Manager ?
Have you ruled out a hardware issue ? If you have the aspi's up to date, run aspichk.exe and check and see if they've registered.~~~Spidey~~~

What about your DMA setting for the DvD? By default, Win2k sets it to PIO Mode. You can change it by opening up the properites for your IDE controller and change it to DMA if avaliable. Makes a big difference in performance.
With regards to you ASPI layer, version 4.60 seems to work the best. I had nothing but problems with 4.71 and simply went back to 4.60 using a utility called Force ASPI.
