I've been searching around the internet for DVD-R/W media and along with the different brands, there's gold/silver. Could someone tell me what the difference is and are they better or something? Also is gold better than silver?
So far, i've purchased a 3-pack of Memorex DVD-R(heard they're good for compatibility) at COMPUSA and they were crazy expensive.

My next purchase will be from online, because it's much cheaper. Im just wondering which type of media to go with, that is reliable and has good compatibility?

P.S. Just wanted to say that, this past week, you guys have helped me wonders, and im greatly appreciative. Thanx

hello, maybe what I will say in reply to your problem is something really stupid but is the only truth I know. My DVD-R's are all magenta on the writing side because that's the color of the organic dye used to make them. On the internet when I bought them, the description was that they are silver/magenta because on the upper side the DVD was silver. Maybe the silver/gold mention has nothing to do with the DVD writing layer and in this case all comes to what color you like better...
    But maybe I' wrong ...

I buy my DVD's on the Internet. I just bought 200 at 0.80 cents each which I consider affordable. Unfortunately the guys where I buy this DVD's are very unreliable and they ****** up almost every order. It's really a luck if you receive what you ordered from the first attempt, that's way I could not recomend them unless you want to play with fire. They also have this DVD pack samplers which basically are 5 or more different brands of DVD's put together for you so you cand decide which brand you like without having to buy 50 DVD's.

Yea, i may be the stupid one here. lol

I didn't know it was something that simple as the color of the top of the disc. Now that you mention it, the bottom of the Memorex DVD-R's i purchased were a purplish color. I really didn't think nothing of it at the time. Thanx though wiespino.

Just curious now as to which media i should go with? Anybody had any good experiences with a certain brand? If this helps...I have a Toshiba SD2200 Dual Disk player and a Magnavox MDV450.
