  1. Recently RecordNow has quit working for me. After installing SP1 on WinXP it doesn't seem to communicate with the HDD's. The past few months though it has been the best burning program for compatibility.

In order to save a project I had been working on I was forced to burn with Nero 5.5.9.9. The disc works great as far as I can tell. I was wondering how you were burning the discs in Nero rogjack. Rather than use the DVD-Video option, I chose UDF/ISO and turned off Joliet.

This is an interesting debate and I'd like to see more specifics from both sides. Oh, and if anyone knows what the hell is wrong with RecordNow, that would be nice too.

The_Flash: I tried UDF/ISO after someone else suggested this would create a more compatible DVD but it didn't make any difference I could see. Still wouldn't work in a 454.

I just updated to SP1 and RecordNow still works for me. Do yoiu have the latest version?

  3. rogjack: Yes, I have RecordNow v4.00. I know there is a v4.10 but that release just has the newest PxEngine integrated, which wouldn't make a difference as I have installed the latest PxEngine.

I noticed tonite after visiting some friends that the disc I created with Nero which I thought worked fine, doesn't play in my gf's dad's Aiwa. That player has always been picky about media, etc. But the same media recorded with RecordNow would always work on it. So I guess Nero isn't a fullproof solution.

I have to figure out what is up with RecordNow. I read somewhere that VIA Southbridge chips can cause problems with the a03 and burning. So I think my next step is going to be uninstalling the VIA released drivers for those and doing a rollback. I've also tried PIO only as well as DMA. It is reassuring to know that it is working for you, so I know it isn't something with the SP.

RecordNow MAX is my new best friend.

I would highly recommend it over Nero any day. I don't mean to shrug off Nero, because it's a really good prog! But as far as being more compatible, i found RecordNow MAX is the way to go. I was burning my DVD back ups with Nero and they were working in my new Magnavox MDV450, but not in my Toshiba SD2200(which is on every compatibility list on the net). About 2 days ago i tried burning with RecordNow MAX, and it worked in both players! 8)
The 4.10 version also picked up my Pioneer DVR-104 and my CD-Writer which is new as well, as soon as i opened the program.

P.S. If anyone wants to be pointed in the right direction on where to get "stuff", then PM me and i'll get back to ya ASAP.

  5. I finally got RecordNow working again. If the next version of this software has Cue/Bin burning capabilities it would be the ultimate package.

  6. Where do you get Prassi? Is it a try and buy, or just buy it?

  7. Different programs for different people. Personally Nero works a-ok with whatever I give it and all players that I have tried (couple Apexes and Sonys).

So it all depends on the user.

  8. I am having a great time with current version of DVD Complete. From VHS to DVD good quality and great menues and printing capabilities. I know Dazzle get's it's knocks but this is not their development.

Dogbolt: My dealer said there had been changes to the 454 though he didn't elaborate. He just said that because Nero was not producing a totally compliant DVD they would not work on the player.

Since then I have made about a dozen for a mate that owns the 454 with Recordnow Max and they all work fine.

All mine are now made with this program as well. I'd hate to be in the postition of the guy over on vcdhelp.com finding my entire collection won't play after changing his player.

Yea, poor guy can't play any of his dvd's... maybe he should have taken one with him to try-before-he-buy!!.
Seriously though, this nero issue has now come to haunt me.
I lent a dvd to a friend who's just bought a pioneer 350 and he can't play it at all!! With this in mind and from some of the postings here in this thread I've decided to use dvd decryptor to do all my burning in the future...just in case.
