i use dvd decrypter for all my burning. i have made and burned about 120+ movies and have not had 1 problem with it

If I split the disc or if I strip streams, the image tool works incorectly producing 200 MB image files for 4 GB DVD-R's.
Please enlight me because I have problems with Nero and I'd like very much to find something more reliable to burn DVD's..
Thanx -
if the disc i am starting with is a dvd-5 then i just make the iso with dvd decrypter . Mode>ISO>read. i have not had any problems with ifoedit creating my img files before. one thing i always do though. take the files you want in your image. put them in a root VIDEO_TS dir. IE: C:\VIDEO_TS. then open the first IFO with ifoedit and make the image that way. maybe you are already doing this, but i have not had any problems making the images that way. and yes every disc i have plays in all my stand alones. i have made bad discs, but only at the beginning, not since i have gotten really into the game

Well, my foolproof method which plays on every player I've put it on is this.
1. Create image using IFOEDIT disc image tool
2. Burn using Gear Pro DVD
Hasn't failed me yet. -
What's up guys.
I see you guys talking about creating image files with IFOedit?
Just for practice, i used DVD Decrypter for ripping a single layer DVD the other day, in ISO mode. I followed the guide that someone else had wrote on here. In the end, i was left with a file that had a DVD cd in the middle and it read as a DVD_VIDEO ISO file. I also checked the properties and it was exactly 4.00GB. The person that wrote the guide said to just burn that file as an image in Nero.
My question is...Why are some people, who are following the same method i wrote above, going through a whole bigger process using IFOedit? Why not just burn the ISO image file?
P.S. I read on a site, that IFOedit isn't too stable of a program using Windows XP? Im running Windows XP Pro and that's why im kinda "iffy" about using it also. -
you cannot always make an image of a movie, and have it fit. that's why all the other steps are necessary most of the time
-
Okay, i totally understand that. But if the ISO image file is below 4.38GB, then you should just be able to burn it right/wrong?
Also, im not too in the ware of using IFOedit. So if you go through the ISO mode of DVD Decrypter and get a 5.00GB image file in the end....What would you use IFOedit for? And is it difficult and time consuming? -
first you need the files to use ifoedit, not an image. and no, ifoedit is not time consuming, but the rest of the process is

If the DVD_VIDEO ISO file is less than 4.38GB, then you can just burn as image in Nero...Right/Wrong?
And i dunno what OS's you people are using, but i have checked at least 4 different forums and they have all said that IFOedit is NOT compatible with Windows XP! They also said, "That if you get it to run, then good luck on how long it will last." So take that for what's worth. I mean if you guys got some "miracle" for making IFOedit work on Windows XP, then please do share.
I dunno about anyone else, but i dont want my comp. freezing up and spazzing out. So i guess i have to find an alternative, until someone tells me that it definately works.
P.S. I had no intention of coming off sarcastically, but i just wanted to make a point. -
I AM GONNA TELL U NOW.... WHOEVER VOTES FOR NERO DONT NO WHAT THEY ARE TALKIN ABOUT..... I PROMISE U
-
Well, i can't tell you you're wrong Mol3000, and back it up. Because i haven't gotten my burner yet and tried to burn with Nero.
I would like it, if you could explain as to why Nero is bad? Everywhere i go, people are praising Nero for it's burning. A select few prefer others over it, but for the most part...It's all "Nero Lovers." -
either that or mol3000 has a hp burner and not a Pioneer ( could be wrong on this ), but Nero has been fantastic for me.

1.smartripper
or bypass 1
2.DVDx
3mux with Tmpgenc
4burn Nero
This method has been flwless for me
Nero is the shit . Are you sure your burners plugged in ?? lol -
i have talked with quite a few people that get discs that are not compatible with many players when they use nero. my sony will only play about half the discs that i have burned with it, but my pioneer will play almost all. since using dvd decrypter i have not had a single disc that does not play in every player i have tried, even older players that some people have no luck with when trying to play dvdr's
-
Discs burned with Nero will not play on the Pioneer 454, though strangely they do play on a 444. There's nothing wrong with the data just the way the disc is burned. I've tried burning as DVD video and ISO/UDF data, the results are the same.
Next I copied the VIDEO_TS folder from a disc that didn't work and reburned it using Recordnow Max and that works. I think this proves that it's a Nero problem. -
rogjack,
you've proved nothing except that the dvd you burnt won't play. If you were to burn a number of discs the same way using any burning software you would get failures due to bad media. Especially if you're using "budget" blanks. Reliable media is needed to prove whether nero is at fault here.
Bulkpaq, Ritek, Datasafe etc are not great media and you're bound to get the occasional failure no matter what burning software you use.
Try memorex,apple,traxdata for testing.
NERO KICKS IMHO

if i burn dvd with nero they don't work on my xbox but if i burn with prassi everything is ok....
If Live Is A Long Way To Death, is Death A Long Way To Another Life ? -
In fact, I've burn't a lot with Nero and none of them work with the 454 and a number of other players out there. There's been a number of threads on this issue in several forums and newsgroups. There's a bug in Nero which still exists today in 5.9.9.9.
Disks burned with other programs using the same data and same media (including rewritables) do work.
If Nero burned discs work on your player then your lucky. They won't play on everyone's. -

Wasn't trying to be clever but you never specified if you had done that step of the process. Well, good luck.

Currently, I use Nero to burn my DVD's, but would like to try PrimoDVD. Unfortunately, I can't get PrimoDVD to use my Pioneer A04. I recognizes it as a DVD reader, but not as a writer. Hopefully I'll find a solution shortly. -
What I use for any dvd-5 movie, simply use:
SmartRipper - to rip the entire DVD.
Import the directory into GEAR PRO professional as a dvd-video project and burn the dvd.
This gives you a perfect backup. -
Just to contribute about IFOEdit on XP. I have barely used it, but IFOEdit runs fine on my XP box, including the player. So far I wouldn't know that it has problems on XP if I wasn't reading posts here.

rogjack: Have you tried using CD/DVD labels on your DVDs? It does help increase the reflectivity of the discs. I can't say if it works in all players or not but I know that I bought some DVD+Rs on accident (because I was an idiot in the beginning) and have noticed that if you hold them up to a light you can see through them. I am using an HP DVDWriter 100i and Nero to burn. I love Nero's new Nero Express. It keeps you from screwing up. Not that I would anymore. I burn DVD+RWs (Ritek). So far, I haven't had problems with them and the reflectivity of them is great! I still like to use CD/DVD labels on them though just in case.
-
Rogjack: Could be you need to upgrade firmware on the 454.
I must say if you're using the same dvd-rw for the same image and it fails with nero but works with different software, it does point to a failing in nero. Are you using the latest version?
All my discs work fine on every player that they've need put it, and that's quite a few....but none of them are the 454 though.
Maybe your writer could do will upping the laser power....What writer are you using btw?
On the IFOEDIT front:
Ifoedit really doesn't like AGP at 4x so if it's failing try dropping AGP to 2x in the bios

dogbolt: 454 is brand new, doubt it needs new firmware yet, in any case it's not mine, it's a friends. I have a 444 and Nero burned discs work OK in it.
The supplier says that the 454 is much more choosy over DVDs, they have to be totally compliant, something that Nero is unable to deliver at present. The latest program I have tried 5.9.9.9 still has the problem.
My writer is also new - a Pioneer 104.
Let me repeat: I have burned dozens of discs, they all work fine except for those created with Nero that I have tried in the 454. I have remade those with Prassi or Recordnow MAX and the 454 accepts them. I did find a posting in a forum (I think it was doom9's) that explained exactly what the problem is with Nero. Everyone agreed it was well overdue for fixing.
As I say, discs burned with Prassi or Recordnow MAX work everywhere I've tried them including playstations. I'll continue to use them for now. Just keep Nero for CDs. -
rogjack:
The 454 could still need firmware upgrade even though it's new. I bought a scan sc2500 and it required 3 firmware upgrades to get it to play as it should. Thankfully there's a user group on yahoo were owners could discuss options and post firmware. The 454 could well be in the same situation. It's worth looking inside to see if you can get the manufacturer's details..... board revision, firmware etc. Then do a search to see if there's any groups that cover it.
I've since sold the 2500 on and using the trusty old scan sc2000, a TYT clone. Again with the scan sc2000 there's loads of diferent revisions out there, though they all look the same there are subtle differences inside. Each one with diffrent capabilities. By applying firmware upgrades, owners are resolving problems similar to the one the 454 is getting.
