  1. OK, here's my issue. I've new to the capture/conversion game. I've been practicing on my old 850MG hard drive before I put in my new 80GB drive and tear it up. I've figured out the capture side of it. But I'm converting with TMPG and it CONSTANTLY locks up even with only a couple dropped frames. My files are only a few minutes long so the (attempted) conversions don't take long at all. I've actually made one good cap/conversion/burn out of about 20 tries. I've tried separating the audio into a different wav file before conversion and "fixing" the AVI with AVIdefreezer. Neither made a difference. I've heard of people frameserving from Vdub to TMPG. What exactly is that? How do I try that?

  3. Is that all I have to do? Just frameserve in Vdub. Or do I have to still use TMPG to convert the new file I create?

I got a good grasp on TMPG. When I start the frameserve, it just sits there. Is it supposed to do something? Do I run TMPG at the same time?It created a 44 byte file. It had all 0's in the frameserver window. I tried to run tmpg and use the file I created but it said "file unsupported" or something like that.

KEEP THE FRAMESERVER OPEN AND OPEN THE FILE WITH TMPG. ONUCE YOU START TO ENCODE YOU'LL THE "FRAMES SERVED" NUMBERS START TO RISE AS IT IS FRAMESERVING TO TMPG. ONCE DONE ENCODING, THEN YOU CAN CLOSE THE FRAMESERVER

    THIS MAY HELP TOO--

JUST USE TMPG IN PLACE OF THE ENCODER IN THE GUIDE

Thanks, I've come a long way. TMPG says the file type is "unsupported or cannot open" though. I upped the "Directshow" priority too.

    copied from the frameserving guide.....

If TMPGenc gives you an error when opening the video.vdr click on Option->Enviromental settings.
And this window appear, click on VFAPI plugin and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and select Higher priority

ALSO TRY USING AN .AVI EXTENTION INSTEAD OF A .VDR EXTETION THIS SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM
