Sorry about this long post. I have created a project in premier that the frame size under video options is 720 x 480.
My project consists of the following. Using premier 6.0, A series of still JPEG photos that are 5 seconds each on the timeline. the JPEGS 640 x 480. I have transitions and some titleing along with an audio track (.wav) The total length of the project is just under 10 minutes.
I was succesful creating a MPG1 vcd of the project with the help of this group. My process was frame serve via that special premier plug in that allows you to frame serve to TEMPGEnc. I encoded to mpeg via tempgenc and then burned the VCD via Nero 5.5. Again everything went well.
I now want to experiment with making a SVCD with the hope of better video quality. I do realize that the stills really should be 720 x 480 for the best quality, but I don't think it should be a problem at 640 x 480.
Here is my problem.. I am trying to utilize the same process I made my VCD with the exception of once opening up tempgenc selecting SVCD instead of VCD. (wizard step 1)
Here are the other steps I am doing:
Step 2 : select source file - c:IPC server.avi
-I have tried selecting -4 x3 NTSC (720 x 480) , 4 x 3, and 1-1 VGA all with the same results, I cant get the movie info to display at anything other that 480 x 480
-I have not done any of the filter settings in step 3, just hit next
-Step 4 Bitrate setting
Movie info says 480 x 480 29.97 fps / 44100 stereo
Average bitrate says 2520
est file size says 197.22 mb
audio bitrate (greyed out) says 224
step 5 - I name the output file and it does start encoding but again it shows at the bottom 480 x 480.
How do I encode to SVCD so the frame size is 720 x 480 instead of 480 x 480.
Thanks for anyhelp you can offer - Carl

SVCD IS 480 x 480 and your player stretchs it out .. but if you want to make a xvcd 720 x 480 just use the dvd template and lower the bit rate to svcd max .. many standalone players will play this fine also (well the pioneer 343 does as well as several others) ...

Hey BJ_M
Thanks for replying, can I ask a stupid question along the same lines?
I was experimenting making a svcd- again via the premier frame serving plugin and tempgenc. Project frame size currently 720 x 480, with the jpeg stills 640 x 480. The pixel aspect ratio says d1/dv .9
When I get to the point within tempgenc and pull up my source file it automatically inserts the aspect ratio 4:3 525 line (ntsc 704 x 480). If I just keep going thru the screens and begin to encode tmpgenc shows a window that you visually see the encoding process. the pictures in the frames look fine in terms of aspect ratio.
However during this process, if you go to file then preview, another window opens up that shows these pictures being all scrunched up. I believe I read that preview window is representative of the final output.
In any case I went into some advance settings where you can select all these different options like full screen, full screen keep aspect ratio, center, custom, ect.. I tried changing a number of the settings but each time I got the same result when trying to reencode. Which leads me to the following questions..
1) When I watch this svcd via my dvd player on my tv, I realize that it wont fill the screen without either cropping something out or scrunching it to fit the aspect ratio. I want the frames to display in the correct aspect ratio they were produced in realizing there will be portions that are black.
What settings should I be using to make this happen?
2) Do I need to do something like change the project settings within premier prior to encoding the mpeg?
If you or anyone else can lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much - Carl
