  1. Playback of burned VCDs starts to slow down at the 15 minute mark. The sound starts to go(can hear "pings" like Morse Code). I have tried 2 seperate movies, re-encoded each...all with the same results. This happens when I playback on my JVC XV-S500BK. JVC says it's not the player. The files play on my mac OK, but I'm using Quicktime so it's avoiding the VCD format. I'm using iMovie 2.0.3(OS9) AND 2.1.1(OSX), Toast 5 and an Iomega ZIPCD, and it happens every time. No, I haven't tried another stand alone, because I don't have access to one right now.

    Thanks

I have the exact same problem as you do, I think it has to do with your CD-R's.

    Buy some better CD-Rs.

Are you always starting the movie at the same point to test ? - If so, start it in the middle of a movie (by using the time skip or FFWD etc) and see if after the '15 minutes' it starts again. Basically this will determine if it's linked to the disc or the player. If it still stanrts going wrong after 15 minutes (but reads the first 15 minutes from the middle of the movie OK from what is now a different part of the VCD) then I actually do suspect the player. If it plays up immediately - then it must be your CDR's as the previous post suggested - of try burning at a lower speed.

  4. I have tried fast forwarding into the VCD and it is still screwy at the 15 minute(+-) time mark. In other words, the problem is connected to a point on the disc and not time playing. Roxio said it could be the burner. It plays factory VCDs fine, so I copied a factory VCD and it plays fine. So how could it be the burner or the media? I have used Comp USA, TDK and Iomega brand CDRs. My burner is 3 years old and has a mx burn of 4X so burning too fast can't be it either. I have tried this on OS9 and OSX with 2 versions of Toast, different burn speeds...you name it. It all has the exact same problem. I think it's the content of the files Toast is creating, but I can't tell for sure.. This seemes to be the only answer after all my tests.

OK - so doing a straight copy of a commercial VCD works fine ? - Then I agree it can;t be your nurner or your media. I'm not familiar with Toast at all - Are you attempting to create non standard VCD's or are yor sticking to the 'standard' ? It MUST be the encode that is causing the problem - there is nothing else left to eliminate !

  6. Toast has a feature that let's you export from iMovie as a Quicktime file that is the proper format for VCD. Then Toast creates all the .dat files and folders, etc. before it burns. It only has one VCD format feature. And since it is creating the VCD folder structure, it has to be the problem. But, Toast is a VERy popular MAC burning software, so I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one experiecing this. I have a similar post on Roxio's site which has produced no real help.

If I could create the VCD structure outside of Toast and then burn, I'd probably be in business. Even this site only has instructions for Toast and NeroMax(which i can't find any info on...their site doesn't include Mac software).
