  1. i hope it's a simple question. i want a video capture card so i can capture programs from my satellite dish to my computer. i don't want to replace my currente video card, i just want a second card for video capture.

so, i need it to be either pci or usb. i want to be able to capture a resolutions high enough for svcd and vcd.

Try the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250. At CompUSA for $149. You just missed a $50 off promotion, but price is still affordable. Or search the 'net.

that looks like a really nice card, seems like it's everything i need to encode. although i have no use for the pvr (schedule recording) features since i already have a ultimatetv reciever, the rest of it seems great. thanks for the info!

  4. I have been using Studio 7 AV from Pinnacle.
The package contains a pci capture card and software to capture, edit and output to mpg, avi and vhs.
Using the capture card to digitize and create SVCDs of old family vhs tapes has been really successful and very easy.
And now with my dv camera and the firewire from my audigy sound card I can use the same package to easily create more and more.
No, I do not own stock in or work for Pinnacle!
