identical conversion

hi i want to do anidentical conversion from say a divx to mpeg the problem is say on the master conversion its like got the black box at top and bottom (just like widescreen) when i convert it to mpeg it is full screen and the picture seems to be stretched and of lesser quality i am using tmpge i want a copy of the exact master could you please tell me where im goin wrong thanxs

Check the settings button. On the second tab is a few options including Aspect Ratio & Center vs. Full Screen Options in a dropdown box. Try them for a few seconds to pick the one you like

For your stretching problem... in the advance tab choose "source aspect ratio 1:1[VGA]" and for "video arrange method" choose one of the full screen [keep aspect ratio].

For your quality problem. The short answer is you CAN'T get the same quality as the DiVX because MPEG is a lossy compression. You can increase quality by increasing the bitrate but you'll never get identical quality as the original.
