avi to MPEG video conversion

My dvd player (aiwa HT-DV90) plays only mpeg video formatted file. Is there any way I can convert from avi format to mpeg video format.

If you are "strapped" right now, try TMPGEnc. It will convert .avi to MPEG. remember to select Video--Scan video stream for errors before trying encode it to MPEG. Also load the Nimo Codec Pack to your system.

I am trying to convert avi to mpeg video format, but in tmpenc you can convert only to either Mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. Please help.

I would suggest you try reading round the subject a little. There are some very useful links on the left of this page under What is and How To sections.

so, mpeg comes in two (actually more) flavours. Until you know what you want, you won't be able to get it!
