  1. I've got a panasonic rv31 that I've had for a while - works flawlessly for vcd's and xvcd's.

However, I picked up an RCA 5240 - supposedly plays everything.

I've had some real problems lately that I think I've finally narrowed down.

The 75% of what I'd burn for the RCA (regular standard VCD's) sometimes pauses every 20-40 seconds and sits there for up to a minute before it resumes and then pauses again - sometimes it never resumes.

The same disks in my panasonic rv31 play flawlessly.

I normally burn at 40X or 24X depending on what the media is rated for.

Well tonight, after about getting ready to toss the RCA out the window, I decided I'd burn at 4X.

Suprise... the movies I had just burned at 24X 10 minutes before that had the pause/sticking problem... went away.

Is this a known problem for burning VCD's for this popular RCA player?

I can't imagine why burning at 4x would be any different then 24x or 40X.
(plextor burner - professional grade yahama media/nero). Especially since it doesn't affect the panasonic. Hopefully, through some testing I can the burn speed threshold, as 4X burning couldn't be slower.

Anyone have an thoughts, info on this?

    thanks

i think the problem could be the burning speed. i burnt many of my early vcd's at 8x and they stuttered in my wharfedale. i tried burnning at 4x and have not had a problem since. a lot of dvd players don't like vcd's burnt at high speeds.

  3. Yes, I agree. I've noticed the same thing too. This is quite common.
