I have captured a VHS to avi, converted to mpeg2 using CCE SP.
Yields beautiful mpeg2 picture on computer, SVCD looks great on computer.
I burned at 16X speed.
When I play on home dvd player, picture is terrible. Noisy, ghosting, etc.
DVD player is fine, Shrek (store bought) is great
Would lower speed burn (4X or 8X) make a difference?
Using Nero to burn.
All thoughts/suggestions are welcome.
Somewhat new to this game.

There s no definite answer to that one.
First of all, some players are totally unable to read CDRs or have problems reading them. Yours might be in that category. The fact that your player reads store-bought DVD/VCDs means absolutely nothing - they are burnt on a different media.
Furthermore, even though some players profess to play SVCDs, some are not very good at it. Check in the DVD players list for user comments
Thirdly, among the players that are able to read CDRs and do read SVCDs, media does make a difference. You may have to experiment with a few different brands of blanks to find the one that suits your player.
Finally, yes burning speed might make a bit of difference, although frankly it does depend on your CD burner as well. Not all are born equal. -
YES.... burning speeds greatly affect your quality.
the faster you burn the harder it is for your dvd player to read the information and the more errors contained on the cd. it wont affect the quality if you are watching it on your computer though. i burn only at 1x.
i dont know how could your mpeg2 could look anyhow if it was captured from vhs. anyhow good luck. -
Actually, I would say "NO". But:
Yes, if you have a crappy burner.
Yes, if your DVD player doesn't play all color/flavor of CD-R
Personally, I burn all mine at 8x, and my only problems have had to do with the encoding or authoring, not the reading of discs. -
From my experience, the answer is "YES". Some CDR media is simply worst than the others. If you write it in faster speed, the chance of getting a crappy CD is higher. Computer CD player tends to be able to handle the crap better than most settop DVD players.
