  1. hi,

today, I just ripped Austin Powers 3: Goldmember. I followed a guide that was on a cd that I have.

The programs that I used were:

    DivX Codec (3.2)
    DVD Decrypter (2.4)
    FlasK MPEG (0.594)
    DVTool (0.24b)
    PX3s AC3 -> WAV Converter (0.4b)
    VirtualDub (1.4c)

It was my first rip from a DVD that I have ever done and when I finally got it on my pc, it was 526,598kb and when it was on the DVD it was 3.7gb. I am also knew to DVD ripping and when I tested it out it worked fine. I then put it onto a CD and tried it on my brothers computer and my dads computer but it didn't work on either of them. When I tried it on my brothers and dads computers I tried playing it on Windows Media Player but when I clicked on the play button it comes up with: "An invalid media type was specified". I also thought I saw something about "Codec" when it was trying to load up. Now, when I came up to a part where I had to choose which video codec I wanted to use I had to install "DivX Codec (3.2)" on my pc and choose that. However when I had to choose which video code I wanted to use on FlasK MPEG I could choose "DivX ;-0] MPEG-4 Low-Motion" or "DivX ;-0] MPEG-4 Fast-Motion". But on the guide it said to pick DivX MPEG-4 Video Codec but it wasn't on the list so I picked DivX ;-0] MPEG-4 Fast-Motion.

Now, I could be wrong but I thought that it might not be working on my brothers and dads pc because the codec that I installed on my pc isn't on there pc. But I would like it so it works on every pc fine without installing any video codecs.

If there is anyone that knows that something that I can do to make it work or anything I can download and change. Please tell me.

    thanks alot,
    Jonathan Cooper

Install the DivX Codec on the other computers that you wish to play the movie on, and it will wiork fine.

  3. yeah, I thought of that idea but if I did that i'd have to give the codec to everyone else to install it on their pc. I was wondering if there was a codec that I could use so that everyone else has it and doesn't have to install it on their pc and it will work.

    thanks,

The codec is actually fairly small. You can just burn it to the CD and they can install it in a jiffy - also include a readme.txt file that explains it.

Yep, MPEG-1 video is the best bet for that.

  6. MPEG-1 :S all windows pc can play MPEG-1 it comes with the OS

if you want to play a VCD on a PC just go to the Folder on the VCD named MPEG_AV

in there you will see a file with the extention .dat

open this file in Windows Media Player

Oh, and if you want to make your DivX playable without installing the codec, use the version v3.11 codec as it is just a hack of Micro$oft's Mpeg 4 codec. (I never liked DivX 4->)

  7. I can't see MPEG-1 under the codecs on FlasK MPEG. The codecs that I can choose from are:

    Cinepak Codec by Radius
    Intel 4:2:0 Video V2.50
    Intel Indeo Video 4.5
    Microsoft RLE
    Microsoft Video 1
    Microsoft H.263 Video Codec
    Microsoft H.261 Video Codec
    Indeo video 5.10
    DivX ;- MPEG-4 Low-Motion
    DivX ;- MPEG-4 Fast-Motion
    Full Frames (uncompressed)

will all of those above come with every computer as standard apart from DivX ;- MPEG-4 Low-Motion and DivX ;- MPEG-4 Fast-Motion because I installed those myself. If so, which one will be the best to use and that everyone will have on their computer.

    thanks,

  8. Just use TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG-1.
