  1. Ok, this is what happened.

    everything was working fine.

then I tried to install some kind of WinTV thing from the "add programs" list in the control panel, but when I rebooted the new program was nowhere to be found

but I noticed that the "speaker" icon was gone from my tray at the bottom.

so I downloaded the sovl32.ex(or whatever it is) and when I downloaded it, I could no longer see anything on the MMC7.1

I tried to uninstall ALL my ATI stuff, and even got rid of the solv32.exe file and STILL is black

I can't see what might have installed when I tried to instal that wintv thing..

    help!!! someone!!!

    thanks

really honestly a re-install of windows is sometimes the best method for "weird crap that happens"

Try this......uninstall all the ATI Software including your display driver and do a clean boot. Re-install DirectX 8.1 and reboot. Reinstall your display driver as normal and proceed to reinstall MMC. If this doesn't work and since you've already done a system restore, I don't see where you have a choice but to do a clean install of your OS.
