I ripped LOTR with SmartRipper and ended up with a 6.7 GB m2v file and a 585 MB ac3 file. I used the bitrate calculator for 178 minutes of video with 384 kbps audio. It gave a rate of 3044 Mbps. I used TMPGEnc and set the bitrate at 2700 Mbps mp2 audio and ended up with a 4.094 GB MPEG2 file. Movie Factory, Power Director, and DVDit all say this file is too large to burn (they say size on disc will be 5.3 GB). Why? Do these programs blow it back up to 3 Mbps for DVD compliance? If so, what can I do?

Its likeley these programs want to convert the Audio back into PCM (which is uncompressed) so expanding the file size. I know DvdIt does this, but if you have the PE version, check the box that says 2 chan AC3 and it should fit. Othewrise find an authoring package that supports MP2 Audio. I use Dazzle DVD complete but there are others.

Yeah, I just decompressed SpruceUp and it says I'm good to go. Looks like I'm going to have to buy TMPGEnc and pay $50 for a program that was "included free" with my burner!
