Hi,
I have a problem capturing at any decent quality with the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon card and the sound is even worse. First my system details are:
Pentium 4 2.0GHZ (socket 478) processor
Supermicro P4SBA motherboard
384mb PC100 ram
2 x 60gb ATA 100 7200rpm HDD
ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 32mb DDR
ESS Maestro PCI soundcard (full duplex)
Belkin firewire PCI card.
10/100 PCI network card.
Windows XP Pro
Just allowing the card to be detected by XP is fine and the card works fine for display and I have no complaints.
I have followed the instuctions on this and other sites and if I use any drivers other than the ones built into XP. When I go into the tv app, the screen goes blank and then the pc restarts.
The only way I have got it to work (in a manner) is to use the XP drivers for the graphics display, install WMFDISK (microsoft capture) restart, then install DVD_7_6 restart and install MMC_7_7_0_1_NODVD.
I can then go into the TV app, tune in the channels and watch TV without any problems.
When I capture I use VCD format although I have tried all the other options. The problems I have are two fold.
1) If you imagine capturing at 160x120 and then blowing up to full screen, then that is the quality I'm getting. Avi capture is better but still not brilliant.
2) The sound during recording is fine, but when played back the sound is distorted as if it's over modulating. I have tried different levels and have tried both line-in and mic-in inputs with the same result.
I have plugged another audio source into the soundcard to record and that is OK. So I have ruled out any hardware problem between the graphics card and the sound card so it must be a driver issue, does anyone have any suggestions on what I could try next?
Regards,
Robert Sloan.
The drivers I have tried to use/install in different orders are as follows.
wmfdist Microsoft capture driver
MMC_7_7_0_1_NODVD ATI's MMC
TV_CAPTURE_WDM_6_13_10_6125 WDM capture driver
WXP_RADEON_6_13_10_6118_EFG XP Drivers (crash system)
CONTROL_PANEL_6_13_10_3017 ATI display control panel
DVD_7_6 ATO DVD player

first of all , I ve had the same ATI card with the same issue.
It worked ! but installing a new mobo I ve upgraded my drivers and MMC soft. ( not so good idea after all )
with MMC 7.7 I ve ugly sound in TV !
I ve put back 7.6 , it OK now.
When You playback your video,if your image is pixellisated:
in windows media player ,
find LIGOS decoder in properties while reading a file, then
check box "only decode MPEG 2", It s ok 4 me now.
Finally sound issues :
my AIW is plugged to AUX input of my sound card. ( for u it s perpaps line in )
Unfortunately when I record TV, in the Sound Mixer ( recording properties)
AUX GAIN put itself about 80 %( automatic when launching TV tuner ).
I must then put the fader back to 0 ( 0 db = no amplification )
if I forgot , the recorded sound will saturate.
I found the value and modify it in regedit ( But don't remember , I'm not in front of my personnal PC )
Ask me again if you don't find it.
Good Luck.
