Hello all, I'm relatively new at thsi whole converting/compressing situation... I just have a 12 minute project .avi file (1.4 GB), and my first try at using TMPGEnc was successful, however the .mpg is all interlaced and blurry. I was wondering if someone could break down the optimum settings to convert the file to MPEG. It's at 25 fps, and only 12 min long. Thanks for the help

The question is really what you intend to do with your video once you convert to MPEG. Assuming (yes, I know what happens when you assume) you are going to make a VCD. Load your AVI file into TMPGEnc. Select Load. When the open requester comes up, select the VCD template and then Start. You should get a decent video as a result. Take care!

Thanks for the suggestion... this project i have from adobe premiere 6.02 is just supposed to go on a CD for a group of friends... so they can see it on their computer. When i went back through TMPGEnc, the final .mpg still is blurry and interlaced (if that's the right word) whenever the shot shows action. Is there a setting i'm missing, or a box i forget check?

could my problem have stemmed from when i exported my project to .avi through adobe?

If it's simple as I think it is, (I hope), then do everything that tommyknocker suggested, but go under the "advanced tab" and check deinterlace.
There's other filters, that get rid of other things like ghosting, and so on. Try them out. I find that many people don't take advantage of what Tmpgenc offers in the way of filters, especially for little homemade projects. Your encoding time goes through the roof with more filters.
I'm assuming your capturing at least a ???x480 resolution. That's the reason for interlacing. You're getting both fields. If it's not that important to you, then try capturing at ???x240. It's half the resolution, but you don't have to worry about deinterlacing.
Good luck!!!!
