  1. Is there a difference to capturing from a VHS recorder with:

    * composit or
    * composit to S-Video connector

    In the last example this is a solution where a SCART cable is plugged into the VCR and a S-video connector is plugged into my DC10+
    The VCS doesn't have a connector for S-Video

    This question is mainly because i get diagonal-lines accross my captured AVI's.

    From my reading I have found that:
    VHS/std8/composite is around 250 lines of resolution
    S-VHS/Hi-8 is around 400 lines of resolution
    DV/Digital8 is around 500+ lines of resolution

    So a VHS VCR records, and can only produce, ~250 lines of resolution.
    Capturing from a S-VHS VCR will reduce quality when sending VHS-250lines-composite since the original recording at ~400 lines will be transferred through a connection which can handle only ~250 lines of quality and so only 250 line quality would be captured.

    With the composite signal:
    the VHS VCR limits quality to ~250 lines
    from a TV tuner I think it is ~400 lines
    perhaps someone can confirm this?

    I don't notice any difference but there is a webpage which shows a test sample which does show that the S-Video connector works better. But I can't find it right now.
