  1. I have been making XSVCDs with both Nero and Ulead's MovieFactory software. Both work great for me as long as I stay within SVCD specs. When I increase the bitrate in the 4,000 kbps range and create XSVCD MPEG streams using TMPGEnc, however, I find that only Nero burns the CDs so that they play smoothly on my Apex 660 and Apex 1500 players. When I try this with MovieFactory, using the same input MPEG steams, I always get jerky playback. This happens even if I decrease the write speed of my burner to 8x or less. I have concluded that MovieFactory just doesn't burn the CDs very well when the SVCD bitrate spces are exceeded.

Have other encountered this problem? Any advise as to how to fix this?

  2. Your DVD player can handle bitrates up to 4000kbps? Wow, that's really amazing! Mine (Pioneer C503) begins to stutter at around 2800kbps. Guess it's really a nice problem to have Sorry, I'm not really helping. But I keep wondering why you feel necessary to go that high with bitrates?

  3. The reason I want to go to such a high bitrate is because I am recording ballroom dance competitions. There is a lot of motion with numerous couples swing all over the dance floor. I have found this to be one of the most difficult subjects. Because of the high motion you almost always get some glitter in the SVCD unless you go to bitrates in the 4,000kbps range. The Apex 660 and Apex 1500 seem to handle bitrates on XSVCDs up to around 4,500 or 5,000 OK.
