there could me a myriad of problems here, i have no idea what you did to get your final output. or what you used to burn the disc. or even the media you used. but i have found that a lot of problems come from the authoring process, not the burning process. so bluntly it's the user not the software

Any tips on how to improve your luck? Maybe a quick list of mistakes made (lessons learned) might help those of us who don't know what the hell we're doing.

    Thanks,

first tip is this. stop using nero to burn dvd's. i know a lot of people swear by it, but i have had hit and miss success with the ones i've made with it. since i started using ifoedit to create an image, with the imagetools plugin, i have not made a single unreadable disc. second you have to make sure that your IFO's are set up right, always "get VTS sectors" if your player sees an IFO and the VOB's aren't the right length/size it's going to freak on you. i have probably made 1000 mistakes just this week, so telling you what i have done wrong is not an easy task =) luckily though i catch them and fix them before burning. always test your disc with windvd. or ifoedit. just put all your files in C:\VIDEO_TS dir and run it from there. that way you know you are getting it to read the right files. if the menu is not linking right them back track, figure out the steps you did, fnd out where you could have gone wrong. there are just hundreds of small, seemingly insignificant settings that can cause your disc to be bad.

I would like very much to build the image before writing it but for some movies, when I split to 2 DVD-r or when I Strip Streams, the resulting image has 200 MB and obviously is not good. For some reason the Image Tool is not working properly if I modify the IFO files. For me this image thing works only for single layers DVD's. Please help if you think I do something wrong !!!
