hello experts,
i`m from europe and received a so called "SVCD" which does not play on my standalone Grundig GDV130.
It`s ripped from a US-DVD.
I took tmpenc and tried to demux the file. tMPg says:
Video: Mpeg2, 480x480, 23,9.. fps, bitrate:2600
Audio: Mpeg1, 128kbit
When I tried to burn that file again using Nero it says it would be a mpeg1 file!! tmpg says mpeg2. is the 23.9..fps the problem?? i think SVCD standard would be 480x480, 29,98 fps for NTSC.
23.9..fps is "NTSC film"..is there a "NTSC film" in SVCD which uses 23.9..fps??
can you tell me why this file doesn`t play on my standalone??..it works on my PC.
Is this XVCD or XSVCD?? I checked the copatibility list...it says my standalone supports XVCD and XSVCD and the bitrate shown above..
can anyone help me??
best regards
shark

23.976fps it not supported in the svcd standard like it is with vcd. You have to include the 3:2 pulldown flag so that the SVCD will be played back at 29.97fps. This is exactly how almost all commercial ntsc dvds are made as well so if your dvd player supports SVCDS it will definitely support 23.976fps w/ 3:2 pulldown.
I don't know if later versions have fixed the problem but even releatively new versions of Nero did not properly recognize the 3:2 pulldown flag and reported that the SVCD mpg was non-compliant even though it actually was. Turn off compatibility in Nero and burn anyway, or better yet use a compliant SVCD authoring program like vcdimager.
Even if the 3:2 pulldown isn't included in the mpg stream the SVCD will still play, it will just be extremely jerky. If the SVCD doesn't play at all then something else must be wrong.
