I have an MPG file that I would like to convert to VCD compatable MPG format using TMPGEnc, but I can't open it because it says its unsupported. The only media play I can play it in is RealPlayer. I cannot play it in Windows media player. Any advice?

Do you have the freeware version of TMPGEnc ,is it more than 30 days old, and is this MPEG file MPEG-2? If the answer is yes to all these questions, TMPGEnc is working as it should.
If you get an error message when opening the video or audio like file unsupported...(select) TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.Hello. -
I have an older version of TMPGEnc. I got it around a year ago. Could that be a reason?

If you have an MPEG-2 file, and you have the freeware version, it will NOT support it. You need to have the full version (TMPGEnc-Plus), fully activated to open MPEG-2.
