1) I spent some hours to get a tool to send the picture from my tv-out (tnt2) to tv, so I am able to record to tape with my VCR. I tried TVCC2000 and TV-Tool and itīs not posibble (after many hours of trying) to get the TV screen filled with the monitor screen - to big or to or small and even to change the window size of a player (maybe anyone knows a player, with Media-Player and Twin-Player itīs not possible!).
2) Second problem is, if I play my movie on TV in fullscreen (352x288 mpeg and 320x240 indeo compressed) there is a very poor quality (also if i record with the VCR and playback) even I changed the resolution with the tools to 640x480 - if I play the movie windowed itīs great. I think I would have to play the movie with a screenresolution 352x288 or 320x240 so itīs not stretched because european pal-TV is 320x240 - but this is not possible, isnīt it?
I tried something other: I started a playback of my original movieclips I captured 352x288 (uncompressed) and the quality in fullscreen is also great - you think, why not using the original: for now I have captured 10 mins (352x288 uncompreesed) and need 22 GB !!! - I only own a 80 GB HD
any solution would be great!

Generally speaking...if you can play the movie full screen on your monitor and it looks good ...it should be the same on your tv. Clips you download (small ones) or ones that have been too compressed generally look bad full screen...For descent quality look for clips that are 7mb per minute or higher..ie: 90 minute movie should be 600-700mb.
For capturing you need to check your settings and use a huffy codec without everything set too high (check bitrate)...I generally capture at 2 to 4gb per 15 minutes of video..then encode that to mpeg with TMPG and end up with about 10mb a minute...
With good source the above sizes yield great full screen movies....
If you have something that questionable...there is some software that helps them look better regaurdless of what player you use.
I'll post the name of it when I get home tonight...can't recallit at the moment... -
Itīs not possible that my movie is looking good on my monitor in fullscreen, because itīs 352x288 and my monitor is 1024x768, but the original captured movieclips are looking great on TV in fullscreen (640x480 with TVCC-Tool) even my compressed (320x240) movieclip has around 600.000 kb/s but os looking bad in fullscreen and I need it to look great on TV to record with a VCR. If would be able to change the monitor (when switched to TV) to 320x240 Iīm sure it would be a good looking movie, but I think itīs not possible - so how can I put my movie on a VHS-tape?

I have taped ( to VHS ) movies from my TV out that are VCD(ntsc) resolution 352x240 mpg's ...full screen on the PC or TV the look the same and are great quality....we may need you to list the specs of your system to help see whats going on there....
Can you change the resolution on the TV out...or is it always set the same as the monitor is.... My TV out maxes out at 640x480....irreguardless of how high the monitor res is set...
If your matches the monitor...then decrease the res on the monitor to lowest (probly 640x480) and see what that looks like. It may help for you.
..also download the program that I will post a link to here later....it helps also. Its a filter called ffdshow get it from: http://cutka.szm.sk/ffdshow/ -
System: AMD 650 Athlon, 256 DDR, 80 GB HDD Maxtor UDMA 66(7200 U/min), Asus TNT2 Ultra TV in/out, Monitor: Targa 4296 Trinitron (I use 1024x768 at 85 khz)
I can change the resolution to 640x480 (also 800x600) and get a clear well looking desktop on my TV and I wrote it before: if I watch my original captured clips (352x288x25 uncompressed) in fullscreen on TV I get a great picture even in fullscreen at 640x480 but a 130 mins movie is around 24 GB and the goal is: 1) make a VCD 2) make a avi-movie to burn on CD to watch on monitor 3) make a VHS-tape
I captured to 352x288x25 beause I thougt it would be the best reolution for my 3 goals with less time and less space, so maybe I thought wrong.
How did you get a full filled desktop on your TV - I get only an oversized or smaller desktop but no one which fits the TV-screen?!
What is "ffdshow", for what do I need? -
MaDmiZe, you got me curious about this filter you mentioned. I went to the site but they don't really tell you what it does in simple terms. For those of us who are not highly technical what exactly is it?
When would you use it? From the above thread I get the impression you could use it to improve a poor quality clip. Is it something you use to view the clip or do you reencode the clip? Do you need another program to run it or is it self contained?
Thanks -
Someone wrote about this thing called ffdshow a while back and now I cant find the thread....but the just is ..if your movie or clip is kinda poor...not complete crap...Just install this filter(plugin)...does not re-encode...just does a process on the clip as your viewing it..You just install and it works with most viewers (Windows media player, PowerDVD in file mode...ect)..It has its own defaults or you can adjust them...It does some kind of pixel averaging that smooths colors and blockiness and makes the stuff look tons better...I had a 300mb clip of Road to Perdition...was hardly watchable..But I viewed it with this and it was good enough to tape...
As for watching full screen...my graphics card has several choices for the TV... primary or secondary display...and clone or extention of desk top. Under clone it is supose to be exact copy of monitor screen...but no videos would play right..So, I set both Monitor and TV as Primary (didn't know I could, But I did) and now what ever shows on monitor is on TV also...If I have a video playing on computer screen and tell it to go full screen...its that way on both.
As for your large movie file....get VirtualDub and compress it using a divx codec...it good compression low loss of quality....any movie should fit in less than a 1.4 gb of space and look good.... I have PearlHarbor on two vcds (mpg) and its over 3 hours long.
If you can't get it right e-mail me and I'll walk through it step by step or I'll tell ya where to send a 500mb-1gb sample and I'll experiment and give you exact settings. -
To convert to divx is maybe a solution for myself (I tried already but the quality is same as poor as mpeg in fullscreen), but I donīt want to have my friends download divx to watch my movies - even they are not getting used to install codecs - they are not familar with pc, so I want them only to put the movie-CD in the drive and press PLAY - so I have to make a CD with a compressed avi-movie (without divx).
There is another problem (confusion) I just recognized: If I play my original captured movie-clips with my Video-Editor itīs a great picture in fullscreen (I wrote before) but if I play my edited movie-clips (exported uncompressed) and play them in fullscreen I loose a lot of quality!!! I donīt know why, because I didnīt use any codec so they have to look like before?!
So maybe anyone knows a solution for this problem, my other problems would be solved. -
djxe............
Heck ...now I'm confused.... You want good quality compressed AVI format..But you don't want to use a codec??..They will all require one codec or another to play (like divx)...Thats the problem with AVI's....too many different codecs...half the people you show it to wouldn't be able to play it with out getting a new codec.
I would encode to mpg....much more compatable format...and VCD video files are mpg ( in case you want to make a VCD)... And I don't know what your doing (because I'm confused)
but mpg files can be made relatively small with great quality...Thats what 90 % of the people on this forum are using....All my movies are 352x240 (ntsc) mpeg1 and look great full screen...and I have fit over 2hours and 15mins on one (700mb) CDR.
I am not sure if its something you doing or the way your system is set up... so I want you to down load a sample (from me) of a mpg movie and see what it looks like on your system. I don't have anywhere to upload to...so do you have Kaaza (or another p2p client)?? If so, tonight when I get home, I will put up 5-10mb clip for you to download... Look on Kazaa for files by madmize...do a search by artist. Watch the file in something like windows media player...full screen and compare it to yours. These samples won't be up till about 9pm EST. -
I sent you a PM with a server location where you can upload some files.
Next week I by a standalone DVD-player and than I try to make a mpeg/VCD movie and I hope I get a good picture and so I can copy my movie on a VHS tape.
But the poblem I have now is still the quality on my pc and so Iīm first waiting for your files to compare to my ones.
Why are my captured clips in a better quality (about 10 times) than my edited files, rendered uncompressed - they have still to be like the captured ones, isnīt it? -
djxe,
I got your PM ,so I'll upload the file tonight...sorry for the delay but I'm at work and all my movie stuff is only on the home pc. -
I uploaded also a movie around 20 seconds so maybe 4 eyes are able to see more than 2, the name of the file is kayra.mpg - you can download it from www.styled.at/kayra.mpg
I am considering the posibility, that my software is too bad, I use Videowave2 because itīs really nice but the software uses the same codecs like any other software?! I also made a short movie a long time ago with Videowave 1 or 2 I donīt know. I captured with the same card from the same camera, it was also the same tape and I still have this short movie (352x288x25 mpg) and it looks great so I feel very bad at now.
But why are my original uncompressed captured movies looking so great and after editing and exporting also uncompressed the quality is so bad?[/code]
