Public thanks and acknowlegement to EnemyWithin for solving my mystery problem with his method using DVD Decryptor and Infoedit.

I still was unable to burn to a DVD even with my finished file finally correct.

I had tried the B's Recorder Gold that came with the firewire Pioneer drive and tried a trial of Nero. I finally figured out I had a software burn issue because neither software would erase either my Prango DVD-RW or my test Memorex DVD-RW disks and both made a large stack of RW coasters.

I downloaded a trial of RecordNow Max and it worked perfect the first time both doing a full erase and burning Das Boot. I don't know if this was a Windows XP issue or what---but now it works!!

    Again, thanks!!

Ya, I was playing with splitting a DVD9 this weekend a little. The new version of IFOEDIT attempts to make it easier. The one place where I had a little trouble was picking the split point. It seems that if your DVD has 10 vob id's and you pick 7 as the split point, then it will put 1-6 on DVD-R1 and 7-10 on DVD-R2. This makes sense for normal movies, but not for the strangely ordered multi-episode Sex in the City DVD that I was trying to backup.

What problem are you having with splitting the DVD?

ok well i found out that you canstrip DTS with smartripper/decrypter, no problemo.and that you can correct small delays with meastro.

but what if it has bigger delays?

  4. Blackout,

First of all thanks for the informative guide. I do have a question though if I may. In Option 3, step c. the dvd2avi part, you say to 'Load DVD2AVI, select your ifo file created from part '. I don't get this part. I load the ifo, and demux is allready selected then I select save as and nothing happens? I am completely lost on this step for some reason. I read another guide on it, and he said to hit f5 and then it goes through the movie and strips the audio and now I'm converting in TMPGenc but it's taking a longggggg time (3 hours into it and another 4 to go?) I'm trying to back up Sanford&Son First Season Disc 1, which has 7 episodes, and is about 2 hours and 50 minutes in length. The computer that is doing the re-encoding is a P4 1.6A w/ 512 Megs DDR w/ Win2k so I don't see as why it would take that long. Any help from any of you would very much be appreciated!

  5. Hello everybody,

I burned a single layer DVD by using DVDDecryptor, but it stops while showing one of the FBI warnings. It doesn't matter which player I use (I have tried several), it does the same thing. Can you tell me why? Thanks!

  6. Hi enemy,

great tutorial - it's really helped me.

one question about subtitles though - I had not been bothering with them until I read what you said about them being important if you want to see foreign language translations in movies like Blackhawk down. When I checked my version of BHD which I'd made without the subtitles the "translations" are there OK, (prusumably as part of the video - like they would be in the cinema !!?).

Could you clarify the need for having subtitles for me - I don't need subitiles thoughout, but was worried by what you said about the tranlations subtitles.

    keep up the good work

    cheers

  8. I would like to say thanks to EnemyWithin, I'm a newbie and before I found your guide I had made 4 coasters using ifoedit incorrectly.

  9. Well, I finally ran into a video that when stripped with ifoedit is still 4.71gb, Sum of Alll Fears.

What method of transcoding do you suggest for this one? I have used TMPGEnc and the m2v file that it created was not able to be verified by DVDMaestro for some reason.

  10. First, thanks for the tutorial....helped a bunch and I've managed to learn the ropes without using IFO Edit in two or three days.

I've successfully burnt two DVD-RW's (I'll switch to DVD-R's once I'm confident I won't make enough coasters to re wallpaper my apartment. Perhaps christmas tree ornaments?), both of which i had to re-encode as the main movie itself was more than 4.3GB. Those movies were Blade2 and Changing Lanes.

    Problem:

I'm now working on the Scorpion King, which the main movie is less than 4.447GB, or so DVD Decrypter tells me.

According to your original tutorial, that would put me into Option 2. However, when I decrypt in IFO mode, I end up with several .m2v files, a Maestro chapters file and no .ac3 file, as your tutorial says I should have.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing incorrectly?

Also - The Scorpion King seems to have several extra subtitle streams. Will some of the subtitles in the regular movie (subtitles off) not show up if I don't rip these extra subtitle streams as well?

I don't expect an answer or a fix but suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and patience.

P.S. Here's another good tutorial for those DVD's whose main movie files without extras are still too large for DVD-R (aka re-encoding) WITHOUT having to use IFO Edit.

  11. You have to click on each stream that you want to demux and select the "Demux" radio button. Selecting it once for the currently highlighted stream will not demux all the streams that you have selected.

  12. Joo are my hero. For whatever reason I was thinking selecting Demux applied to all checked boxes.

    Next question...

The 4 .m2v's it dumped on me....how do I combine those into one or do I just import all 4 into Maestro?

Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.

  13. In DVD Decrypter...Tools...Settings...IFO Mode...File Splitting. Change to "None" if you want one big .m2v file (which you probably do if you are running W2K/XP with an NTFS partition). If you are running Win9x with a FAT32, then 4GB is the max file size. In that case, you will need to place them one after the other in Maestro (never tried this, so I don't know if you will see any gaps or not).

  15. Is there a simple way to just copy the main movie to two DVD's? I dont care about menu's, Im hoping to avoid having to copy duplicate files to discs and just be able to do it simple. Also do you have any simple guide for dropping the quality of A dvd-9 so it can fit on a single layer DVD-r, again just the main movie I dont care about menus, or extras at all

  16. Here's a link to the DVD-R for dummies guide.

    http://www.digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/

It's a step by step tutorial on how to copy movies whose main movie alone (without menus or extras) is still too large for a blank DVD-R.

Basically, you have to split the movie into separate audio and video, then mess with the video a little to make its file size smaller to make it fit on a DVD-R, then put the sound and resized (aka re-encoded) video back together into files a set top DVD Player can read.

The method used on this tutorial for re-encoding comes out with video that's awesome quality (I really can't tell a difference and I'm a graphics major) and the sound is exactly the same as the original.

  19. I just want to Have the Movie alone By itself on 2 DVDrs I refuse to Reduce the quality one bit. I hear everyone having problems with that so for a mere 2$ for a dvd+r Ill in vest the money for 2, SO if anyone knows how to accomplish this as simple as possible.......
    Quote Quote
  20. then its simple...........

    1) Rip with dvd decrypter (1 or 2 parts)
    2) Vob extras at Ifoedit (and tick the required fields)
    3) Burn with favorite burn programm

No quality loss (original audio streams and video bitrate) and the procedure takes about 20 minutes (without the ripping).

    Life is so simple.........

  21. I ...acquired DVD Maestro within the last week or so. Any DVD authoring program that can import .m2v's and .ac3's can be substituted for the last section.

I'm wondering if anyone who's knowledgeable about TMPGEnc re-encoding quality vs. CCE could send me a private message or perhaps email me at chrisc345@hotmail.com please?

I hadn't noticed any video degredation even with re-encoding until tonight when I watched Blade2. The film is mostly dark lit and action packed which, apparently, shows re-encoding's flaws. Still looked great, just not exactly like the original. Was hoping there was a way around this. Thanks!

  28. You load VOB's into DVD2AVI, not IFO's. Just select the 1st VOB in the set (i.e. VTS_04_1.VOB) and click add. This will automatically load the rest of the VTS_04_X.VOB files. Looks like Blackout needs to do a little editing

  30. Yes, unless the DVD contains both the widescreen and full screen versions. Then you will need to open both of the IFO's (off the DVD) in IFOEDIT and find out which one contains the version you want to keep (hopefully the widescreen version!).
