  1. Hi EnemyWithin:

I've try you method with ifoedit, taking of extra audio and extra subtitles, i just chose 1 audio and 1 portuguse subtitle.
It works ok on my pc dvd, but on standalone dvd subtitles don't appear, do you know what could be the problem?

    Thanks,

  2. What ID does the subtitle get when you strip it? I know that for soundtracks, stand-alone DVD players will play the 0x80 soundtrack by default. Therefore, in a stripped DVD, the audio track must be at 0x80 (because there is no menu to choose a different one). Looking at my stripped DVD's with English subtitles, they are all at (0x20, 0x24). Maybe you need to make sure your subtitle ID is correct?

WHERE IS THE POOL? THERE IS NO POOL! Could someone please provide a screen shot of where I'm supposed to click? I'm using DVD Maestro 2.9. Could anyone please tell me how to complete Step a) in Blackout's DVD Maestro quick Trip?

Here's what I have on my screen:

  4. Ok, so geocities doesn't allow linking to images. Here is a link that works. This is what I'm looking at:

    Hi EnemyWithin:

I've checked the subtitle id on the original movie and is (ID:0x27,0x20,0x36) the striped movie is (ID:0x27,0x36), could this be the problem? How do i change the ID?

Thanks for your help on this.

  6. Hey timboo22,

Can you help me with CCE 2.5. I cant manage to use avisynth with it. I can only use VFAPI convert and load in the avi file. The avisynth method is supposed to be quicker, when i try this I get a 'unknown error'.

I am using Windows XP pro. I have installed AviSynth and my avs file is like so:-

    LoadPlugin("F:\VIDEO_TS\mpeg2dec.dll")
    mpeg2source("F:\VIDEO_TS\lwn.d2v")
    ResampleAudio(44100)

    I have copied the mpeg2dec.dll into f:\VIDEO_TS.

Have you any ideas where I have gone wrong.

    Thanks in advance

  7. I have managed to rip a few DVD's using Enemy's IFOedit method, but am finding that sometimes it does not work, specifically with Miramax DVD's - they turn out quite jerky.

I have tried Backout's method #2 on these, but I think I am missing something. When I rip the DVD with DVD Decryptor, I don't have an .AC3 stream. I have .ifo, .vob, several .m2v streams, and several .txt files, I assume for Maestro. I have made sure, several times, that I have checked an audio stream to rip.

What am I missing? Thanks for your help!

  8. Jessops,

I think you can use Vobrator to change the ID. It isn't very stable though, so good luck

    Chris1234,

I had the same problem with avisynth. I fixed it by using the latest versions of avisynth and mpeg2dec.dll. Search thru the forums at Doom9.org for more info.

    GoMichigan,

What Miramax DVD's are playing jerky for you? I use that strip method on every single DVD I backup and haven't had any problems yet.

    a973352,

Drag the .ac3 and .m2v files to the bottom right-most corner of Maestro to add them as an asset.

  9. Enemy - I had problems with Birthday Girl. I managed to rip it after having IfoEdit remove angles instead of DVD Decryptor.

I then tried to rip Serendipity. The first attempt was very jerky video. When I tried the same thing as above, then it started playing back in both English and French. Strange!

excellent guide -- a minor point regarding audio sync ->

the feature of syncing audio ac3 track to video only works if the ac3 track has timecode embedded in it and that the original video file's time code and the ac3 files timecode has not been broken or reset to 0 .. then you can use "sync audio track"

but a easier way to do it is to look at the amount given in stripped audio (like lets say 80ms) and then go ahead and drop the ac3 file on the movie timeline -> then slide the ac3 forward the correct amount (ac3 does not have to start at begining) .. 80ms is .8 x 30 = 24 frames (close enough) .. even if the source is 23.97 -- use delay times 30 (except of course PAL where its delay X 25) ...

Tip: In Maestro there is trim function for your video clips - put cursor at end of a clip (any video clip on the movie line) and it will change to a "<]" symbol ... you can use that to truncate your video clip .

  11. Enemy -

I discovered my problem. After ripping and sending the movie thru IfoEdit, I would test the results using IfoEdit. Mistake! Apparently, the software DVD player in IfoEdit does not play too well - it appears jerky sometimes. I realized this when I finally downloaded PowerDVD 4, and played my ripped movie on it. The jerkyness was gone. I must have wasted 10 hours today playing with the settings on IfoEdit, trying to get the jerkiness to go away. Now, I feel like an idiot.

By the way, thanks to both Enemy and Blackout for their guides and suggestions. I now feel like I can rip any DVD!

  12. a) Load DVD Decryptor, it will select your main movie automatically.
    b) Extract to your hard drive creating .ifo and .vob files. This will also create chapter files for you for Maestro.
    c) Load DVD2AVI, select your ifo file created from part b). Change the Audio section to “Demux” and then go to “Save Project” and save it to your hard drive. This will save your audio only and a small project file, .d2v. The audio file will be your 5.1 AC3 File.
    d) Load up TMPGEnc, it will load your .d2v file, play with your settings (im not going into this..read some toutorials)…select System only (ie no audio file processing) and save to an m2v file. TMPGEnc extracts from your VOB file thru that small d2v file as it goes, creating your big m2V file. Hopefully your settings have made your movie smaller than the original…I suggest a bitrate of between 3000 and 4000 on average to make a typical 2 hour movie fit.
    e) Load Up SubRip, load in your .Vob File and IFO file. Select your Subtitle language you want to add to your dvd and select “Save as BMP”. Subtitles are BMP pic files, save the BMPs to your hard drive and then save the DVD Maestro-specific files to the same place…youll have to select Maestro as the output format. These will tell Maestro where the BMP pics need to play in your movie.
    f) Load up DVD Maestro. Import the m2v video file, import the audio AC3 file (create sync track once imported), import the Chapters file, import the Subtitles list, and Create your VIDEO_TS folder.
    g) Burn your VIDEO_TS folder with Nero If Nero complains about a non-compliant file, its just an extra project save file that Maestro added to your VIDEO_TS folder, you don’t need this file so just continue.

hi umm go to dvd2avi and do what you say save project and does it in about 1 sec done dont know if thats right and then you say open up tmpeg and it will load your mv2 file it dot please help!!

DVD Decrypter auto selects the Files/Vobs that it's pretty
    sure is the main movie.

But Should I select all VTS_04_x.xxx files ??? (04 in this example)
    Quote Quote
  14. It's probably not necessary to select all of them, but I like to be sure. This also helps to prevent potential problems if DVD Decrypter fails to select all the files you will need. Better to rip too many files than too few.

  15. If I do step2 but there is enough space left for ONE of the extras.

    How do you do that?

Example: the Movie and ONE of Music Video that
    was on the origional DVD.

I know what VOB the Music video is so should I just
    inlcude that with the rip?

I do not need menus, it is just fine if the Music Video plays
right after the movie is shown.

  16. Tonyp12,

Try using Vobedit (from IFOEDIT site) to merge the vob's of the main movie and the music video. This should easily add it to the end of the movie like you want.

  17. I followed the tutorial (option 3) to the letter and found that there is some inaccurate steps with using DVD2AVI. No sweat, I figured it out.

    -BUT-

DVDMaestro is the last thing giving me problems. It doesn't seem to like nearly any video file I try to import. The specific error is "Media Not Supported Error (0xC10B0002)". I assume that my settings in TMPGenc are the genesis of this error. I've tried changing the settings around, to no avail.

Have I got a bunk copy of Maestro or is there a VERY specific media format it's looking for? Perhaps my MPEG2 decoder version isn't the right one.

    Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

  18. PPhheww.. Lots of people seem to be publishing 'simple' guides to DVD-DVD-R ripping but often they are anything but and Im not exactly a newbie ! but i find a lot of thenm very confusing.

    Heres my guide..

If your main movie is over 4.5 gig then why not try this

The original Video_ts is for example

    Video_ts.vob
    Video_ts.ifo
    Video_.bup
    Vts_01_0.vob
    Vts_01_0.ifo
    Vts_01_.bup

Copy these files into 2 folders (call them 1 and 2)

Now say for example you have 5 vob files 1 gig each. Copy the first 3 into the first folder and the last 2 into the 2nd folder.

So basically you will have the first half of the film in one folder and the second half in another.

Rename them Video_ts and burn onto a DVD-R

Note this method works fine on my Afreey VD player but know that some other players will have probs with this method (they confused with the 2nd disc)

But its a bloody easy way to do it and worth a try.

  19. I do not think that is a good way of splitting a DVD-9 to two DVD-5's

  20. am i on the right path in reading this thread if my intentions are as follows:

goal:create 2 movies (example - batman1and2) and save them in 1 DVD-R. Note: Batman1 was copied from VHS using a capture card.. saved it as .avi - Batman2 - DVD source

sub goal1: make a menu with 2 buttons linking to batman 1 / batman 2

sub goal2: edit batman1 using premiere to include a "property of ..." in the beginning of the movie. (ive done this but i need the file to be .avi) - how do i extract an .avi file from the DVD's .ifo/.vob files (im new at this). Is this possible?

If you have no problem with 2 disks, why you don't just use DVD2SVCD and make 2 SVCDs. It is cheaper than 2 DVDs, and quality is almost the same.

  22. joms,

This is not really the thread for what you are trying to do. You will need to feed your AVI to either TMPGEnc or CCE to convert to mpeg2 (for Batman 1). Then you can import it into a DVD authoring program and make your DVD. For Batman 2, you will need to transcode the DVD to a much lower bitrate if you want to put it on the same disk as Batman 1. You will need to use TMPGEnc or CCE for this also.

  23. Enemy Within,

    Thnx for the reply.

I have both TMPGenc and CCE and could convert the Batman 1 to mpeg2. For Batman2 though, how do i make it into an avi file from .vob? i have the ff programs, pls recommend whats the best prog to use:

    -CCE 2.62 SP
    -TMPEG
    -IFOedit
    -DVD Decrypter
    -DVD Maestro
    -VOBrator
    -Chapter Xtractor
    -DVD2AVI
    -Ulead Workshop
    -Pinnacle 8
    -DVDit PE
    -Virtual Dub
    -ReMPEG

    My system is:

    Athlon 2000+ XP
    Asus Mboard
    512 DDR RAM
    Pinnacle DV500
    Pioneer 104 DVD-R
    3HD with total of 200Gig (100+GB free)

  24. You will need to use DVD2AVI. Open the vob's in DVD2AVI and save the project. This will create a d2v file that you can use with CCE. If you have avisynth.dll and mpeg2dec.dll, then you can create a script (.avs) to load into CCE. Checkout the avisynth forum at http://www.doom9.org for more info.

I've got all the correct files needed to burn the DVD. Here's my problem...If I burn in Nero using UDF\ISO method or in Prassi the resulting dvd will play in my computer, but not in my stand-alone. When I've made DVD's (option 2) using DVDDecrypter and IfoEdit and burned using the DVD-Video option in Nero (I'm using the latest version of Nero)...the resulting DVD's play fine in both the computer and in my stand-alone. The problem is the DVD-Video option for some reason won't work (gives a reallocation error) with the files DVDMaestro makes. Why? The only way my stand-alone will play the burned DVD's is by using the DVD-Video option, so why does'nt Maestro make files that will burn in it? Does anyone know? This is the only thing stopping me from making this work and it's getting very frustrating!!! The player is a Genica Kalua GN-800 which plays VCD,SVCD, DVD\R & DVD-RW. This thing plays anything except a DVD burned in Prassi or Nero using UDF\ISO.

  26. Quick question on this method (sorry, I'm new to this).
Regarding scenario 2, where I want to preserve the movie only, in its original quality. I ripped the movie and streams using dvd decrypter, but didn't get a m2v file. Don't I need to use TMPGEnc 1.77 to get this file?

    Thanks.

  27. Help! I'm trying to use method 2, and am having the following problems:

I can't seem to get an ac3 file and a mv2 file at the same time. At this point, I only get the mv2 (more than 1) files. Earlier I was able to get an ac3 file, but that also came with vob files and not mv2 files! What am I doing wrong? Would someone be kind enough to give me all the exact picks of options for every screen in DVD Decrypter? Thanks.

I was following this guide when I hit a wall. It got to where you import the m2v file and the ac3 file into DVD Maestro. However when I try to import the video it says

    Media Not Supported Error (0xc10b0002)

Every time I load up Maestro it gives me this error which i just close and ignore:

Real Time Preview functionality will not be available because no decoders have been detected. (0x410a0011)

Is it just messed up? It imports the audio file fine just not the movie. Is there any other program to pull the m2v file and the ac3 file together in order to make a VIDEO_TS folder so i can make my movie?

    thanks

    XRacerGT

PS I tried TMPG to mux the audio/video but it keeps giving errors and the outputted mpeg has no audio. Any suggestions?

That error is fine. Don't worry about it.

    Media Not Supported Error (0xc10b0002)
That error is most likely caused by not running pulldown.exe on the m2v file. Do a search on pulldown.exe for more info.
