Hi Guys,
I have ripped a movie (star wars, episode 1) to the HD and stripped the menu's and other obsolete stuff. I have transcoded the movie several times with ReMPEG but the result was not that good (blocky output, flickering image). I noticed that the whole movie is interlaced, while normal movies are progressive. Does anybody has experience with this problem, solutions?

I had a similar problem with harry potter. It seemed to be the Warner tile sequence in the first movie Vob file. I stripped it with IFOEdit and I was then able to transcode it fine with ReMpeg2. As a test, jut try transcoding one of the other vobs .e.g. vts_01_02.vob (just for a few minutes) and it should be fine. There must be some sort of protection in the Warner sequence?.
I don't know who makes star wars so I don't know if it is a similar problem. -
Hi q1aqza,
It seems that the whole movie is Interlaced, thats the problem. I can not find the solution within ReMPEG to handle 'interlaced' movies. -
The only option to try is the 'Match Source' option under Frame Mode. Have you tried what I suggested and test on another Vob just incase there is a Vob id sequence in teh first Vob that may be throwing the transcoding off?

you may as well forget about rempeg for interlaced movies zappernl. the sopranos season 2 has this same problem and i can't find any way to get rempeg to transcode without getting terrible quality. the only program that seems not to give problems is cinema craft encoder. you might want to try that instead.

If this is a Warner Brothers movie (ANY WB movie), then you will need to remove the cell containing the logo (as it is interlaced). The rest of the movie should be progressive and work in ReMPEG2 just fine. That interlaced cell is confusing ReMPEG2 into thinking the entire movie is interlaced.

Hi Monarc_2000,
I have tried CCE and the blocks are gone! How ever now I have a sync problem with the audio. The compression factor of CCE is amazing!!!
Any suggestions on the sync issue? -
"most movies are progressive" ?
i wish, infact interlaced and progressive films are about even in the UK, dont know about ntsc films.
